World End.

17 Sep 2010 — Henning Lahmann

The twisted rhythm and blues sounds of London's Earrings have been floating around for a while now, but my ears remain intrigued and spellbound by the lonesome stranger's tunes of his Wilderness EP which have been made available for free download via his bandcamp. In particular World End, the sample heavy slow jam that opens the collection of four tunes, sounds like the haunted house of R&B; that Beyoncé Knowles and the likes never would set foot into. It's coming.

The Holy Forest

17 Sep 2010 — Tonje Thilesen

Written, recorded and produced in only 24 hours, Two Bicycles newest record The Holy Forest is in my ears the most honest and soulful piece of work I've stumbled upon in a long, long time. In fact, I think this record sums up pretty well why I love music so much. Get it for only $6 off their bandcamp here (and remember to read the description field for the other side of the story!) — I can assure you that it's worth every penny.

NFOP recommends: Mon Insomnie

16 Sep 2010 — Henning Lahmann

Our favourite Czech melancholic Tomas aka Mon Insomnie is finally back in town and has set up two shows to present his outstanding take on bedroom dream pop that is utterly beautiful and completely lost in reverie. He will play tonight at Schokoladen, Mitte, and on Saturday at the deplorable occasion of Hans Wurst's (Prenzlberg) Funeral Party. Highly recommended.

Mono no Aware

16 Sep 2010 — Tonje Thilesen

Straight out of the oven, yesterday's EP release Mono no Aware by the oh-so-lovely The Townhouses (aka Leigh Hannah), is hereby served for dinner. Following his debut album Islands back in July, Mono no Aware is packed with lovely ambient slash dream pop melodies, sometimes slightly spiced up with some trip-hop like beats. Go name a price over at bandcamp, or download Islands for free here if you haven't already.

Blackbird Blackbird x Emily Reo.

As has been pointed out by others before, there is essentially no way to believe how Mikey Sanders aka San Francisco's golden boy Blackbird Blackbird does this, let alone where he finds the time to keep up the pace of what feels like dropping at least one amazing gem per day. In any case, today I've found another splendid collaboration in my inbox: Fade to White is all about Blackbird Blackbird's signature production of shimmering and hazy sundrenched electronica, this time ennobled by the sampled voice of NFOP darling Emily Reo.

Make sure to keep checking Sanders' bandcamp, there's so much awesome free stuff up there that I couldn't even post if this blog were exclusively dedicated to this genius.

News from the City of Angels.

One of my favourite tiny cassette labels, LA-based Leaving Records is gonna put out Sumsun's highly anticipated full length debut Samo Milagro on September 28. Listen to the 80s infused and beat infested previewing jam Ants below, a slightly hypnagogic delirium that will keep your hips moving around in a state of obfuscating trance.

Moreover, the imprint has announced the strictly limited second pressing of the much acclaimed Dem Hunger record Caveman Smack, originally released in February. Dem Hunger's latest work of creepy psychedelic ambience, Wanda Hena El Hawa, will be part of a forthcoming Chocolate Bobka ambient compilation, so watch their space.

Summertime in fall.

15 Sep 2010 — Henning Lahmann

We've been waiting for this all summer, ever since Ghost Animal officially launched the season of joy with California Summer pt. 1 back in June. So, now it is finally here, the positively deranged shoegazey wave duo's debut full length Summer Time in Heaven, out now on cassette via Mat Cothran's most adorable Summertime In Hell label in a collaborative effort with Orchid Tapes. Enough said, head over to order the tape or just download the whole thing for free.

Below, tease yourself with Single Man, the signature tune that sums up all the things that made us fall for Ghost Animal in the first place, three minutes of most beautiful melody drenched in an ocean of fuzzed out and heavily reverbed layers of guitar.

Old Money.

Chrome Wings are a Portland, Oregon based duo consisting of Jon Jurow and Shane McDonell. Their now sold-out cassette tape Time Patterns that the two had released ealier this year via the great Stunned Records received some well-deserved raving by some of my fellow bloggers, and now the masters of warm noise experimentalism return with Old Money, a wonderfully hazy and laid back jam meandering through your headspace, distant and hushed vocals coming to you as if sung underwater while thick layers of synth sounds make you feel warm and dizzy. The tune will appear on Chrome Wing's forthcoming 10 inch which is due this fall via our ever exploring Amdiscs.
