Stories of spiders and lo-fi

06 Oct 2010 — Tonje Thilesen

"Warning: its pretty crazy, but I have been feeling pretty crazy for a couple months so I guess that's what comes out".

It seems like only yesterday Mutual Benefit served us the lovely Drifting EP, a piece of which I'm sure I wasn't the only one falling head over heels with. Almost half a year later our man Jordan Lee now has another treasure in store for us, released only a couple of days ago over at Bandcamp; filled to the top with pure, but indeed very unique lo-fi tunes. All though the sound sometimes varies from tender guitar playing to spaced-out, experimental noise; the tracks still manages to melt together into one, finally creating the splendid piece that no other than Jordan could have produced: Spider Stories.

New tape: Vehicle Blues/Jen Paul split.

05 Oct 2010 — Henning Lahmann

Chicago's Gabe Holcombe aka our beloved and before introduced fuzzed-out bedroom dream project Vehicle Blues has released a new split c10 cassette tape together with New Jersey's lonely shoegaze girl Jen Paul / No Lakes, on his own tiny yet very rad label Lillerne Tapes.

Both artists contribute two tunes each that all provide the perfect soundtrack for these days of falling leaves and fading sunlight, short pieces that let us feel this season and the short days that lie ahead of us, with walls of guitar fuzz heavily drenched in echo and reverb. Fall be kind.

My favorite color

Eirik Djuvsland of We Are Mystery (both of whom we recently featured on the Norwegian Inquiries mixtape) just handed me over this brand new, exclusive track of his self-titled solo project, which is hopefully also a part of an upcoming EP/full-track in the future. While at it, remember to check out We Are Mystery's brand Living Dead electro demo, available for free here.

Teen Whistle.

04 Oct 2010 — Henning Lahmann

Some nice French love to start your Monday morning by Young Michelin, a C86/twee and 80s wave endorsing project by Romain Guerret, hailing from a tiny village close to the Loire. Teen Whistle is a sweet and innocent singalong, instantly getting you into the right mood for the week ahead. Young Michelin's self-titled debut EP is available via Bulle Sonore Records. Not sure why they painted the dog though.

Our Star, The Sun.

04 Oct 2010 — Henning Lahmann

There seem to be a lot of musicians these days who are not satisfied in being creative in only one "genre". Usually, these busy artists will act out their respective ambitions under different recording monikers - however, LA's Lee Noble is this rule's exception: He doesn't need a single alias for his diverse musical talents. After making you familiar with Lee's sunny garage side back in late July, it's about time to get into his apparently personally preferred ambient/drone noise facet which recently made itself productive again, materializing as a new C30 cassette tape on Minneapolis, Minnesota's lovely Moon Glyph. Our Star, The Sun is a beautiful piece including six slow ambient tunes, absolutely captivating and contemplating stuff, highly recommended. Order now and listen to two of the tracks below, exclusively on NFOP.

Nature’s Kid

03 Oct 2010 — Tonje Thilesen

Nature's Kid aka Ryan Solomon from San Diego chops up and plays around with creations that he finds in his own iTunes library, until he ends up with his very own and unique, glitchy electronic sound. Download his album Loops for free over at bandcamp and listen for yourself.
