Watch Over Me.

05 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann

This year's most adored Vancouver chillwave phenomenon Teen Daze finished a new track last night and kindly shared it with the world right away. Watch Over Me is another pure bliss that instantly made me forget about all that rain and storm and bare trees outside my window and took me too a warmer, friendlier place. Though overall rather melancholically toned, the tune still evokes memories of sunshine, and isn't that exactly why we love this dude so much?

Prepare to get your hands dirty

The dead, industrial city is moving, pulsating, evolving — and we're standing in the middle of it watching it all happen. In other words: dark, dirty and gloomy are the key words for the CDR/tape label Tundra Dubs' newest release, where San Francisco producer Ben Versluis aka Ghoul meets up with Chicago based Christophe G. aka FluiD, creating a stunning, four-track EP where deep and grimy hip-hop beats are blending in with elements of dubstep.

The Ghoul + Fluid EP is limited to 50 hand assembled CDR copies to be ordered here, or digitally via Bandcamp for a mere $1 — or you can simply download a couple of tracks from the EP exclusively below.

I Want the Knife.

05 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann

Fresh out of the Brooklyn ovens comes a glooming new Night Manager tune, slightly slower and considerably darker like your favorite post Halloween nightmare. I Want the Knife once again exposes the quartet's striking approach towards hazy and fuzzed out pop music, inheriting the most rewarding features of all decades to come up with something new.

Check here and here for more Night Manager tunes.

King Corpse.

So folks, it's about time to lose it again with Miami's staggering quintet Lil Daggers, an almost ridiculously true-to-the-concept garage outfit that simply provides everything we ever expected from this kind of music, dirty organ riffs and distorted guitar washes and casually dashed off vocals. In other words, pure, good old d.i.y. glory is what we're talking about here.

The King Corpse four track 7 inch is available via Livid Records.

Triptides.

04 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann

Completely psyched by this mellow piece of straight-up Californian surf pop perfection, a song that makes you feel like it's 1969 again. Triptides is a thrilling young trio from Bloomington, Indiana, and according to themselves they play "the best damn landlocked surf music you've ever heard", and god I'm sure they're absolutely right on this one. Their debuting self-titled EP has been put up to their bandcamp today, so head over and grab the whole thing for free. All six songs are absolutely worth checking out.

Beach Fossils + Dråpe

Some pictures I shot at the Beach Fossils gig in Oslo yesterday, with my Norwegian darlings of Dråpe as their support (last picture — see flickr for more). Listen to their very newest, ear melting track below.

Son of a Gun.

03 Nov 2010 — Henning Lahmann

LA's Lord Huron returns just in time to let a little sunshine into our grey and rainy November days with his new Mighty EP, the second output after June's much acclaimed debut Into The Sun. My favorite song of the four track piece is Son of a Gun, a summery tune composed of rhythmic guitar chords and Lord Huron's signature vocal harmonies, a hazy production that instantly leaves you with warming memories of this summer which now, somehow suddenly, already lies in the past.

Though slow-burning, the song's complex arrangement subtly builds tension along its way - without slipping into lazy namedropping, it is rather obvious that Lord Huron gets a considerable amount of inspiration from the predominating musical trends of the last two years, but unlike so many contemporaries the outfit's incredible talent results in the creation of freshly sounding, gorgeous little masterpieces nonetheless.

The whole Mighty EP is available for a very reasonable amount of money via Lord Huron's bandcamp.

Liasons / Visions of the Valley.

Pigeons' Si Faustine on Olde English Spelling Bee has probably been my favorite unexpected release this year with its otherworldly beautiful psyched out bedroom pop that has kept me dreaming along for an alarming amount of days now (as a little reminder, watch the video for my album fav Fade Away below), and yesterday I got noticed that while I was kept being spellbound in the Bronx duo's wonderland, Wednesday Knudsen and Clark Griffin themselves had wasted no time to come up with more pure splendor. The sweet Minneapolis imprint Soft Abuse has announced two upcoming Pigeons releases, their third full length Liasons (sic) and the Visions of the Valley 7 inch. The single is already available, the album will be released on November 16. Listen to The Race and the unbelievably wonderful No Other Way, both from Liasons, as well as the 7 inch's b-side Sunset Park below.
