Lonesome Ghost.

26 Feb 2011 — Tonje Thilesen

Now this is refreshing for once. Lonesome Ghost from Dallas, Texas crafts folky pop tunes and sometimes mellow lo-fi, varying all the way from the uplifting Golden Cage to the more melancholic I Was Only Trying To taken from their pretty fresh 4-song EP None of These Songs are About You or Anyone You Know which you can download for free off their bandcamp.

A Guide to Healing.

25 Feb 2011 — Henning Lahmann
"This record is like a mental postcard from Varanasi (India). It's probably my favorite place in the whole world, being there is like being on LSD. And if you dive in Ganga water (the purest water on earth according to the hindus, the most polluted and unhealthy according to science), hold your breath and open your ears, this music is what you'll hear." High Wolf's A Guide to Healing 7 inch is out March 22 on Bathetic and already up for pre-order now. Deep and heavy psychedelic drones by the French enigma, built on highly repetitive patterns informed by traditional Indian music that will suck you in immediately if you're willing to let it happen. As expected, only the highest quality emerging from High Wolf's spirited mind. High Wolf - Free Your Energy Field Read more → "This record is like a mental postcard from Varanasi (India). Myrtle Threes.

25 Feb 2011 — Henning Lahmann
NFOP regular Matthew Sage aka M. Pyres (of Colorado's Patient Sounds) has been very busy lately to finish his new album, but apparently "the studio setup isn't working"; however, instead of just relaxing to see if things are gonna get straight all by themselves again, Sage rather recorded three bedroom versions of finished album songs in order to try out variations. The brief Myrtle Threes EP which is the result of this process is now up on Patient Sounds' bandcamp for everybody's pleasure. Also, Mr Sage has just put up another example of his unquenchable desire for sonic explorations with his Starling Murmurations project. I is a two-track collection of minimal and easy baritone guitar and programming experimentations, slow burning séances and nicely contemplating voyages of sound. I will be available on tape sometime in March, but you can get the whole thing digitally already over here. M. The Ocean.

25 Feb 2011 — Tonje Thilesen

You might remember the ever so splendid EP The Holy Forest by Teen Daze's ambient side project Two Bicycles from last year, and if you've been following his updates during the last couple of days, you also might've gotten your hands on the gorgeous track I'm Not Afraid To Wait For You, taken from his upcoming debut album The Ocean, most likely to drop sometime in March or April. Having been so lucky to get a sneak peak at the album already, we can assure you it's worth the wait. In comparison to both Valerie and The Holy Forest both released back in September however, The Ocean is a fully instrumental album with an even bigger focus on that hollow ambient sound, as if it was a soundtrack to the nature still untouched by the human being. Vocals or not, Jon's mellow and eternal tunes continue to impress.

100% Silk: Second coming.

24 Feb 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Not Not Fun's Amanda Brown graciously sent over the second batch of her shiny sub-project 100% Silk, another 12 inch double packed with purest glam disco extravaganza. This time it's London via Tallinn, Estonia songstress Maria Juur aka Maria Minerva blessing us with her blissful Noble Savage, some kind of upbeat Nite Jewel lo-fi disco, dark and sleazy and absolutely spellbinding, something both contemplating and an irresistible call to arms. Slightly cleaner and more on the house side of all things dance is Confectioner Beats by Cuticle, a trio made up of Jeff Witscher (Rene Hell), Darren Ho (Driphouse) and Brendan O'Keefe (Nimby). A-side track Flair seamlessly summarizes the glory days of dance music while keeping it very minimal, only constant echoed synth tweaking illuminating the dry, straight base line. Classic. Pre-order both diamonds over here. Premiere: Femminielli - Estados Alterados.

24 Feb 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Seriously stoked about the upcoming cassette by Montréal's most exciting minimal synth wizard Bernadino Femminielli - evoking dark fantasies already in its title, Carte Blanche aux Désirs is a trip into the most forbidden pleasures of your inner self, amazingly exemplified by Estados Alterados, the first track to surface prior to the tape's release: starting with Femminielli reciting words of purest eroticism over a simple, upbeat drum machine pattern and sparse analog synth lines, the song reaches almost classic chanson-like quality when the artist finally aspirates "te quiero" and falls into that kind of careless crooning championed by Gainsbourg or Bécaud in the heydays of Paris (though it's not French here), in combination with the underlying minimal wave essentially leading to an almost transcendent listening experience. Utmost perfection. Carte Blanche aux Désirs will be released March 6 on Los Discos Enfantasmes.
