Arrange + Ricky Eat Acid: “P.S.L.W.”

11 Oct 2011 — Tonje Thilesen
Our good friends and (obvious) NFOP regulars Arrange and Ricky Eat Acid are unstoppable together with this lovely, new collaboration of theirs, adding Malcom Lacey's mellow vocals to the soulful ambience of Maryland's Sam Ray, whom recently also did a remix of Gem Club's heartbreakingly beautiful "Red Arrow (John)". If you still haven't heard Arrange's debut album Plantation, do yourself a favour and grab a free digital copy right here, or order one of his limited edition 12 inches while at it. NFOP Showcase: Dylan Ettinger & Moon Wheel.

10 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Extremely happy and proud today to announce the first "proper" No Fear Of Pop Showcase with our dear friends over at Kreuzberg's own Madame Claude on Tuesday, October 25. We're gonna have long-standing blog favorite Dylan Ettinger performing his first-ever Berlin show right on time before Not Not Fun drops his forthcoming album Lifetime Of Romance, the highly anticipated follow-up to last year's acclaimed and excellent New Age Outlaws (listen to the new LP's first cut "Wintermute" below). Mr Ettinger will be supported by the incredible h-pop vibes of Swedish-born, Berlin via Australia resident Olle Holmberg aka Moon Wheel, a seriously appealing new project that has stirred up quite a considerable amount of excitement among these shores since we first dove deep into the contemplating sonic virtuosity that is "Aleifr". The magic will start at 9 p.m., be there on time. For more information go here. Artwork by Jheri Evans (Get Off The Coast). Grand Trine: “Here Comes the Night”.

10 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Pretty hooked on the gloomy, early rock'n'roll-inspired garage tones of Montréal's Grand Trine since Alex Zhang Hungtai aka Dirty Beaches gave us the heads-up via his blog last week. The group around Shub Roy and Tobias Rochman has actually already dropped quite a few very worthwhile things (go here), and now there's the excellent cassingle named Euthanize Me, recently put out via Craft Singles, the tiny yet incredible imprint that also brought us my secret obsession Omma Cobba, among others. Very stoked by the video, too. Order Grand Trine's three-track cassette Euthanize Me physically or digitally over here. Unsound Festival 2011: The Information Pylon-Mix.

07 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Starting this Sunday and running until October 16, Kraków will host the Unsound Festival, surely this year's most high-profile event for experimental and underground electronic music. On the festival's last day, Britain's rad new imprint Public Information and London-based Exotic Pylon Records will hold "The Information Pylon" at Fenik's Bar, starting at 2.30 pm. The showcase will feature live performances from The Haxan Cloak, Ekoplekz, and Stellar OM Source. As a little foretaste, Public Information just posted this amazing mix compiled by all three artists (twenty minutes each, in the above-mentioned order), with two tracks by each artists "surrounded by edits, sound collisions into their past, inspirations and influences". Check the full tracklist over here. In related news, over at The Wire you may now read extracts from Unsound's "Future Shock Zine" that's gonna be distributed during the festival, inter alia featuring a contribution by Stellar OM Source's Christelle Gualdi. Pigeons: Live at Black Dirt.

07 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Our favorite chamber pop duo (now four-piece) Pigeons are gonna release their forthcoming album They Sweetheartstammers via Soft Abuse next month on November 8. Before embarking on a brief tour over here in Europe (tonight they'll be playing at Newcastle's Tusk Festival, and in Brussels at Micro Marche on October 12), the group performed a couple of tracks at Upstate New York's Black Dirt Studios. The set contains four songs, three of which are gonna appear on They Sweetheartstammers. Take a listen below. Oh, Oh, Ecstasy: “Ocean City Boardwalk”.

06 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
I do know what you're thinking now. "Hey, somebody has been doing something like this some two years ago!" And sure, you're right. What's more, I've actually found one of the dudes' Last.fm profile and of course among his ten all-time favorite albums are records by Real Estate, Beach Fossils, and Ducktails. But seriously, who cares given a song that is as damn fine as "Ocean City Boardwalk"? This three-, occasionally four-piece from NYC named Oh, Oh, Ecstasy, from what I understand consisting of insanely young members, really has a knack for beautiful, distinctly lo-fi pop songs that coincidentally make us think of New Jersey. The band has just released the debut EP Vista Cruiser, and it's up for free on bandcamp. After all, who said you had to reinvent the wheel all the time? Thanks to my dearest bordelaise friend Mathilde for the heads-up. Oh, Oh, Ecstasy - Ocean City Boardwalk Read more → I do know what you're thinking now. Wanda Group: “Stomach Interrupter”.

06 Oct 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Not sure on which release by Dem Hunger's new project Wanda Group this cut is gonna be (if any at all, but the artwork above would make up a great cassette cover), but in any case "Stomach Interrupter" got me with its new age-y, swirling and crackling synth pad, occasionally interspersed layers of synthesized strings and a simple, steady and slow, like really slow beat. Instant contemplation.
