Had already enjoyed these on Friendship Bracelet recently, and now Georgia's C Powers hit me up with a link to the first few tracks of his new (side?) project Cc_. "Vendy" is a pretty dope, slightly classic Chicago-informed "post office house" jam (the artist's designation) that's actually surprisingly fresh and comes completely out of the blue, while "Gryphon Perc" is more rhythm-focused, with some very worthwhile, off-kilter sampling efforts. Very nice new direction.

You've obviously already heard Hooray For Earth's splendid intro track "Realize It's Not The Sun" from their last year's debut True Loves, which made both my album and tracks list last year. Better late then never, Noel Heroux sent us some rather fitting visuals for the song below, taken of the NYC traffic feed. He briefly explains: "I see New York as a good place for me to live because I'm terribly anxiety prone. I think it just helps me to be in a busy place, [especially] somewhere that's equally as loud. People are interesting, really scary, and occasionally wonderful. There are a lot of people here."

Further shaping the sound of modern-day Tokyo, here's a new tune by one of our Cuz Me Pain posse favorites, Faron Square, featuring their signature sound of blurred-out, beat-infected haziness (yes, haziness - if appropriate, we still gonna use this word in 2012). There's also a very nice remix of "Turn Over the Leaves" by label mates The Beauty that you may listen to over here. Can't wait for the already announced forthcoming Cuz Me Pain compilation that's due sometime in February.

The Wire has pointed to the latest EP by obe:lus, which is the recording moniker of Sean Albiez, co-editor of Kraftwerk: Music Non-Stop. The ambient techno of I Saw No Shadow of Another Parting From Her (the EP's name is of course borrowed from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, as are the tracks' titles) was made using very early voice recordings unearthed via FirstSounds.org. "The Days Have Worn Away" employs a re-processed recording of Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville singing the traditional French lullaby "Au Clair de la Lune". All though you can argue this to be a bit of an early announcement, we simply can't hold it back: From The Mouth of The Sun's Woven Tide is already one of our favourite records this year, exploring the classical ambient space with bright, magnificent beauty. Being the result of a collaboration between Gothenburg's Dag Rosenqvist (aka Jasper TX) and Topeka, Kansas composer Aaron Martin, both Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Berlin-based composer Mac Richter will instantely come to mind throughout its 44 minute long spin. However, I can't help but drawing an additional line to Tim Hecker in Woven Tide; sometimes playing with vast elements of drone somewhere deep inside of their beautiful, organic creature. It almost fits a little too well to the sound of my own shoes walking down the slowly awaking streets of Berlin — adopting sounds from the environment like a soundtrack to a film, but with constant motion in this chaotic world.

After last year's stellar Midnight Crimes tape on Not Not Fun, Stockholm's Sand Circles returns with more Vangelis-informed ambient synth incursions into the lost future of our shared past. "Endless Nights" is a mind-altering cruise through deserted urban canyons and wasted red light districts, alarmingly capturing the daunting anxiety that sets in after a seemingly endless night just before the break of dawn.
The track will be part of Sand Circles' Motor City cassette which will be out via NNF sometime in late January or early February.

Fresh off his excellent LP on Mexican Summer last year comes new stuff by San Francisco bedroom weirdo David Speck aka Part Time, more soft-filtered, 80s-informed synth jams that are part post-adolescence futureless melancholia, part hazy beach time chilling, all drenched in a syrupy sheen custom-made for pre-apocalyptic karaoke escapism. Wonderful.
