Beautiful and frightening beats from Canadian IDM artist Woulg aka Greg Debicki, whose most recent EP Floating Longingly Towards The Sun was released on Outlier Recordings yesterday. The six-tracked EP feels a little like getting involuntary undressed, with glitchy, industrial sounds exploring an immense space of purity and rawness at the same time. Breakers is finally here, and Gem Club's debut album is in every last nuance as magical and perfect as we had hoped (no matter what some others say, by the way). As many other talents within the Norwegian music scene, Philco Fiction too found their light of day through the community and streaming site of newly established (indie) acts, Urørt.no. It was here I heard Turid Solberg's voice for the first time a little over a year ago — a darker, Lykke Li-esque Philco Fiction, the kind of Philco Fiction that we got to know through their mini-album Give Us To The Lions that was released April 15th 2010.
One and a half year after the debut, the Oslo based trio are ready to drop their first full-lenght entitled Take It Personal, a record which in many ways continues on the same path as Give Us To The Lions. In addition to beautiful ballads such as "Finally" and "Portrait Of Silence" (which are perfect hideouts when the cold, Scandinavian winter darkness sneak in), Take It Personal unfolds a way more playful and poppy sound than ever before and is, if I dare to say, probably one of the most exciting names in pop that Norway has to offer this year.
The album will be available for streaming via our pals at The Line Of Best Fit on October 7th, while the official album release is set to October 14th on Brilliance Records. Also, head over to Soundcloud to listen to a few other tracks, including their splendid first single "Help!" which dropped back in May.

This amazing tune by Norwich producer Sam Martin aka Samaritan has been haunting us for a while now already, and now it's finally here as part of a four-track EP of the same name, with another track we've already known before, two brand new and equally brilliant ones, plus this fine video to go along with the title track. With all this, Martin more and more proves that he's one of the UK's principal talents in contemporary, forward-thinking electronic music. We'll surely keep an eye on him.

Portland, Maine's Matthew Lajoie sure knows how to keep himself busy. In addition to his highly praised experimental folk project Herbcraft, a few other creative commitments, including Planets Around The Sun and Cursillistas (which appears to be on indefinite hiatus), and not least his own little label L'animaux Tryst (Field) Recordings, Lajoie recently started yet another musical venture together with Herbcraft member Dawn Aquarius, named Brainshadows.
The duo will soon drop their first release via L'animaux Tryst, the Wild Cherry b/w Ripe 7 inch. The A-side "Wild Cherry" is a terrific piece of stark and dense psychedelic folk, with an irresistibly propulsive percussion and beautifully layered organ and distorted guitar sections that lay a heavy fog of noise over the muffled, distant vocals that fade away in a thick haze of echo and reverb. An absolutely phenomenal tune, without doubt one of the finest in its genre this year.

So this is dope. Ohio's Bryan Freitas aka Bryan Ferrari aka Casino Gardens hit me up the other day with the crisp news that he and fellow Beer On The Rug alumni Colin Field aka World Series have joined forces for this fresh project named Rollerblade (name says it all).
Skeechie Skeechy Bowley Ball, their first effort, is a cracking, fuzzed-out trip across the glimmering floor of your favorite roller skate disco (poor you if you got none) over the course of roughly 16 minutes (stream it via bandcamp) plus two bonus singles, adding up to 22 minutes total, dropped physically on a shiny CD-R by the tiny new imprint Ailanthus Recordings. All this information babbling in fact ain't all that essential, just listen to the two bonus cuts below and you'll wanna have the thing anyway.

Spastic Joy is the Montréal-based duo of Menes and Rubin Vitriol, and despite never having heard of them until like a few hours ago, their classy male/female vocals over that thriving restrained cold wave-infused synth line of the tune "The Mission" kicked in immediately. The whole affair gets only more delicate with the track's accompanying video made by Ela Orleans aka movies for ears, a perfectly matching collage of snippets from movies by the congenial twins George (who recently passed away) and Mike Kuchar, famous for their absurdist lo-budget underground productions in NYC during the 60s, complete with cold-blooded executions and evaporating encounters with unidentified flying objects. A beautiful homage indeed.
