Felicita: “Datura/Mountaintop Experience”.

21 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
We wouldn't have guessed this, but according to the impeccable folks over at Double Denim, South London beatsmith Felicita is actually a guy. One way or the other, the only really interesting thing here is that we're downright stoked on Datura/Mountaintop Experience, one of the freshest tracks the dude has put up on his Soundcloud, a nicely dark and gloomy, heavily layered and slowly rising piece of ambient electronica. Very London indeed, and very terrific. Wintercoats: “Delicate Position (Ft. Sea Oleena)”.

- I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't have been better off alone, each one for himself. We weren't made for the same road. - It's not certain. - No, nothing is certain. - We can still part, if you think it would be better. - It's not worthwhile now. - No, it's not worthwhile now. - Well, shall we go? - Yes, let's go. They do not move. Wintercoats - Delicate Position (Ft. Sea Oleena) Read more → - I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't have been better off alone, each one for himself. Art Museums: “Phone Calls, Prayers or the Weather”.

20 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
It's been a while. One of my favorite Bands of 2010, and besides the first group this blog has ever written about, has finally readied a new 7 inch. Art Museums' three-track Dancing EP will be dropped June 28 via Slumberland, and the fine folks over at RSTB are absolutely right when declaring this "an essential single for 2011". This is summery, very 80s-leaning new wavey pop (even The Cure come to mind occasionally, barring the singing), cut short simply perfect pop music. Below, listen to the wonderful, digital-exclusive Phone Calls, Prayers or the Weather, and watch the video for the a-side. Get the whole thing digitally right now via bandcamp or pre-order the vinyl over here. Art Museums - Phone Calls, Prayers or the Weather Read more → It's been a while. Meadowlands: “Music for Seasonal Allergy Relief”.

20 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Chocolate Bobka's Michael McGregor sent over a few tunes the other day, and among them was this "instructional mood & environmental music for temporal transportation" by Meadowlands. So we're not entirely sure what this is, if this is gonna be a future release on McGregor's Curatorial Club or if this was even made by the master himself (there are some hints), but in any case this two-track set immediately grabbed my attention as I'm seriously fed up with sneezing and if listening to this should help in any way, I'm gonna stick with it for the rest of the summer. While Pt. 2 is a 17-minute piece entirely consisting of moody field recordings, Music for Seasonal Allergy Relief Pt. 1 is a splendid piece of mellow, thoroughly relaxing ambience that in any case eases my anger against all those pollen that won't stop bothering me. Video: AyGeeTee - “Birthday Avalanches”.

20 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
So according to the artist, this one was supposed to come out on/in celebration of my birthday last week, and though for certain reasons it didn't happen, please note that I am flattered. Oh, and by the way the video is terrific. World Series: “Joy”.

20 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Obviously, Beer On The Rug is on fire. On Monday, we featured the interstellar late night channel excursions of Midnight Television, and today we're stoked to announce the Kansas imprint's fourth release, the otherworldly translucent pop of Ohio native Colin Field aka World Series. Recorded on a four-track, Episodes of El Niño is all about Field's lush yet subtle, almost irreverent but invariably brilliant guitar play, occasionally with equally sloppy vocals, that showcases a good amount of a summery, earlier Ducktails/Julian Lynch feel (total disclaimer: just noticed that this rather lame and obvious but oh-so-compelling comparison has been made before), totally unspectacular but also absolutely terrific and mindmelting. In fact, after giving this a couple of spins yesterday, these dreamscape-infused jams might add up to be my favorite lo-fi/guitar release so far this year. Stream/buy the whole thing over here. For both World Series and Midnight Television, there should appear a pre-order link for the small run of tapes later today. Watch this space. Read more → Obviously, Beer On The Rug is on fire. Dylan Ettinger: “Squares”.

20 May 2011 — Henning Lahmann
After his very recent Lion of Judah 7 inch on Not Not Fun that had Bloominton synth explorer Dylan Ettinger rather close to his cinematic soundscaping works of last year's NNF full length New Age Outlaws, the stellar folks over at Minneapolis, Minnesota imprint Moon Glyph have now finally dropped his Pattern Recursion cassette, featuring one roughly eleven and a half minute track each side which both show Ettinger diving deep into the realms of synthesizer minimalism. Pattern Recursion is a conceptual piece that solely uses square wave forms which accordingly give the meandering structures a very mechanical, unnatural feel, reminiscent of the works of early analogue synthesizing pioneers. Order the C23 now right here.
