Finally the first track off Bedtime Stories for you to listen to, the excellent new EP by North London producer Blue Daisy in cooperation with elusive project Unknown Shapes (there are in fact triangles in that latter name, but we prefer not to use them). The aptly entitled "Beautiful Nightmare" is all dense, haunting electronics, thoroughly gripping and immersive and surely the best thing in melancholia-infused UK bass right now, at least until that Holy Other record finally drops.

Once again we've joined forces with the mighty Noisekölln crew to bring you the hip of the day, this time presenting a massive showcase with two long-standing NFOP favorites, Montréal's unrivaled master of supremely deranged pop vibes and mainstay of the famed Arbutus family, Sean Nicholas Savage, and one of the finest contemporary experimental musicians, California's Brian Pyle aka Ensemble Economique, who's just dropped his amazing split LP with Lee Noble on French imprint Hands In The Dark. The two will be supported by the Berlin-based droneheads Fausto Maijstral aka Italian-born DuChamp and New Zealand native Will Gresson, and our beloved XORZYZT on the turntables. Out of all the different people I have met in my life, few can compete with the kindness and life energy of the internet friends I met while in United States back in March, music bloggers and musicians alike, creating strong, international bonds between each other in order to create an open community with people who share the same passion for music. After our very first meet 'in real life' as human beings of flesh and blood, you suddenly realize how familiar these people may seem; a little bit like greeting an old friend after years of being apart. It's a strangely beautiful thing, as we sincerely believe that some of our best friends are people who live on the opposite side of the planet, connected to us through invisible strains of information, or in other words, that addictive little thing we call internet. And even though it's not often, you will always meet these people again somehow. Maybe in a different city, or on a different continent. Distance is overrated.
During a short trip up to Boston towards the end of March, I finally got to hang out with one of the city's finest souls around, NFOP favourite and friend Samuel Yager aka Birthdays. As with nearly all the people we know in NYC and Boston, Samuel is too a part of our dearest collective FMLY. Alongside his best buddy Cameron Potter (Little Spoon) and 1/2 of the famous Pelly twins Liz Pelly, these beautiful people arrange strictly DIY-based concert nights at Dreamhouse, inviting local bands and good friends to play their psych-infused bedroom tunes for a bunch of friendly kids. Not to be missed if you're a Boston local, in other words.

First single "Twilight Sohn" creates joyfully rhythmic, colorful soundscapes brimming with plucking and bleeping analog and modular synth scales over subtly distorted pads generated with guitar and more synths, with quite mesmerizing results that get further augmented by the absolutely appropriate retro-futuristic visualisations. This year alone, Caminiti has already released a staggering work of stripped-down folk-informed drone with Night Dust on Immune Recordings, and is set to drop another full-length on August 21 via Thrill Jockey, named Dreamless Sleep.
Last year, his partner in crime Jon Porras' first solo effort under his own name, Undercurrent on Root Strata, took a similar path into slow-burning, deep drone territory. For his latest effort however, Porras has broken out in a different direction with his new project DVVLLXNS, not that obviously named after Dorothy Vallens, Isabella Rossellini's character in Blue Velvet. The four-track EP LITVNY is a dazzling example of contemporary occult electronica founded on unsettling substructures of menacing white noise and haunting samples, creating expansive soundscapes that evoke images of late night cruises through the daunting, abandoned outskirts of the city. A highly compelling EP, and a superb debut for Jon Porras' new musical course.
The EP is also supposed to serve as the initial spark for digital movement/blog THX NXW MXNVMXNTS, which will be curated by Porras and fellow Bay Area artists and work as a focal point for happenings on the darker side of electronic music in and around San Francisco.
