Last November, we reported about an upcoming Future Shuttle cassette on Rotterdam-based imprint Samling Recordings, featuring "Opal Star", a lush and expansive excursion into retrofuturistic synth netherworlds. An appropriately psychedelic, blurry and enigmatic video was unveiled yesterday in order to mark the eventual arrival of the tapes. Here's another incredible, unmistakable Laurel Halo remix, in this instance for Anenon's stellar single "This Is What I Meant", which has been making some well-deserved blog rounds recently. The LA resident's debut full-length Inner Hue is out now on his own label Non Projects. Get it here or (in Europe) here. The remix is featured on the much-anticipated Ad Hoc Compilation that was announced as part of the site's Kickstarter campaign back in February. Now that our sister site (?) is up and running in full bloom, it was about time to unveil this incredible collection of music that is as zeitgeist as can be, and yes we are quite proud of it, too. Since then things have changed. Out of the blue, Air France broke paths with their promise of finishing their highly anticipated debut album, and let's just face it: jj'll never have the same mysterious pop veil like they did in back in 2009. However, the inscrutably subtle Swedish pop scene is growing, and the fine pop lovers over at Cascine have realized that, too. Based in the seemingly ever-sunny capital Stockholm, Ditt Inre sits nicely next to their Cascine mates-- from the sentimentally sexy Jensen Sportag to the somewhat brighter-sounding Southern Shores. Neither did it surprise us that they are a duo of few words: with one foot in the future and one foot in the grave, and a time machine set back to 2008. Wild Vines and Tenement Shrines, the latest musical work by acclaimed New York City musician/fine artist/video creator Alice Cohen, was recently released by Japanese boutique imprint Sixteen Tambourines in an artistically appealing cassette/t-shirt combination in an edition of 50, which as expected sold out immediately. You may however still buy the fabulous and warmly recommended album digitally via bandcamp, and according to the artist there are still a few physical copies left as well. In any case, don't miss out on the brand new video for the album track "Jungle of Vines", another audiovisual delight that highlights Cohen's unique and distinctive techniques, exposing an amount of imagination and love of experimentation that surely make her one of the most fascinating and impressive contemporary video artists (read a recent interview on Bowlegs with her over here). We've impatiently been waiting for our man Andrew Caddick aka Jeans Wilder to drop new material after 2010's stupendous LP Nice Trash. Last July, we said that his forthcoming full-length Totally would be due "sometime between late this year and early 2012 ", but certainly Andrew wouldn't be the real slacker we've come to know and love if he hadn't managed to add some precious delay. But be that as it may, we have a confirmed date now, LA imprint Everlong is going to release the LP on June 26 (that's the cover art above). Below, you may listen to the first unveiled track, "Limeade", a lush lo-fi summery surf anthem that doesn't want to sound like a summery surf anthem but nonetheless drops those good vibrations with every single muffled note, and we guess that's just the way it is if you have to deal with that Southern Californian sunshine each and every day. Our friends over at Don't Die Wondering call it "one of our favorite tracks so far this year", so ignoring this band would certainly be simply stupid. We were already blessed with excellent English guitar pop yesterday, and Deptford, South London outfit Drop Out Venus may serve as further evidence that when it comes to this kind of music, you should trust the British. "Love In Vein" is dark and intense, as is the accompanying video, which was unveiled two days ago. As far as I can see no word on a proper release yet, but be sure to check out their other track "Tapes" as well, a less harsh and rugged but equally uncanny and intriguing song. Some serious talent here, so better keep an eye on these folks.
