When Los Angeles resident Robert Girardin isn't involved in the creative output of the acclaimed Brooklyn-based experimental outfit Excepter, he pursues solitary synth and noise ventures as Jaws, a project that gave birth to its first LP Stress Test last year. Taken from that release, "Sufferer's Song" is a raw and bleak cut that's loaded with menacing, barely suppressed violence, perfectly depicted in the track's new video, shot on location in LA and featuring "elements of horror, television marketing, and online dance trends". As far as we know, our NYC boy Noah Klein has already changed his recording moniker into Cuddle Formation. The below video however is once more a manifestation of the young man's sonic adventures as Philip Seymour Hoffman, the precious endeavor that managed to fascinate and delight us oh so often. Made by the talented Broken Machine Films, the piece for "Tulips for My Buds", taken from last year's split cassette with Mutual Benefit, is a beautiful little short film about urban loneliness, and it may serve as proof that musicians don't need to move their feet to get ahead. We finally got to listen to the brand new LP Warm Blood of Ohio's bedroom pop experimentalist Blithe Field a few weeks ago, and that calls for some visuals too, don't you think? Watch the weird video for "Mom Likes The 80's" below, somehow of similarity to Wolf In A Spacesuit's "Amber Hand", but nonetheless a fun and, well, absurd watch. Pre-order the 12 inch via the new French label Poulpe Mort, or through Spencer Radcliffe's own label Messy Life Records for US/CA residents. As Tonje already predicted on the last day of 2011, "there’s no doubt that these guys will shine in 2012", and Postiljonen's latest track/video only reinforces all euphoric praise already heaped on the young Stockholm-based band that comprises members from Sweden and Norway. "Rivers" is an almost absurdly picture-perfect Scandinavian dream pop gem that actually incorporates a subtle jj-like vibe, evoking delightful if kitschy images of Balearic beaches and endless summer rooftop parties. As reported yesterday, you can see for yourself this Saturday at Flamingo, when Postiljonen will be performing alongside Niva at the Swedish Wave Night that we'll be hosting together with Nordic By Nature. RKSS is a 20-year old producer from Berlin, whose terrific debut EP Basement is a haunting portrait of our hometown "in the dead of night; its dim corners occasionally shedding light, as the nightlife begins to cease and the city crawls into a rare sleep". Listen to the title track below, a rich and thoroughly thrilling exercise in dark, menacing distorted synth pads beneath rugged and convoluted beats, a very compelling first effort from a truly exciting young Berlin artist.
