We're thrilled to bring you the first taste of new producer Slow Year's chilling music. Based out of Seattle, Slow Year is the project of Edward Haller. His style is remarkably dark, reminiscing feelings of fright and horror over a backbone of industrial and techno. "Blood Apple" is the strongest example of this mood, and exemplary of what's coming next. In heaviness and darkness there is still beauty, and Haller knows just how to play with our heartstrings for us to see that.

Watch the video for the latest track by Sunken Foal aka Dublin-based producer Duncan Murphy. "Cutty's Advice" is simultaneously frenzied and laid back: while the footwork-indebted beat is urging enough to be a call to arms, the underlying synth arrangements evoke an almost converse sentiment, unfolding peaceful lush soundscapes that induce a dreamlike state of mind. The visuals, close-ups of sundrenched plants and flowers shot in Murphy's garden, augment the latter feeling, resulting in a nice end-of-summer accompaniment that may prepare us for the cold days ahead.
"Cutty's Advice" will appear on Friday Syndrome Volume 2, out sometime in November via Countersunk.

This Friday, one of Berlin Mitte's most endearing clubs Shift (located within the massive Kraftwerk that is also home to Tresor) will for the first time host the upcoming edition of Kookoo, a series of nights initiated by Mieko Suzuki and Arno Raffeiner aka Ara, "driven by the best house music, electro, and techno has to offer" according to the founders, and we see no reason to doubt it. The October 4 event will welcome female:pressure founder Electric Indigo as a very special guest, who first met Suzuki about ten years at Vienna's legendary club Flex, a happy coincidence that resulted in numerous joint DJing ventures all across the globe. To witness another night of shared passion, make sure to be at Shift on Friday.

"I'm not who I thought I'd be at fourteen" is a lyric that probably almost everyone (fourteen and up) can relate to. Bent Denim express the sentiment with something like visceral resignation on their low key new track "Periodic Table" - the first single from a forthcoming full length LP. The duo wrote the song Postal Service style between their homes in New Orleans and Nashville, and the result is a song that sounds surprisingly lived in and natural. Vocals switch from direct and commanding to barely audible and fluttering, as a slow military beat meanders through various states of digital unrest. The passive, heartbroken wisfulness of "Periodic Table" make me think of Bent Denim as a bedroom electronica version of Stars, but you can attach any genre qualifiers you want when you give them a listen below:

Young Biella, northern Italy producer Nicolò Tescari aka Rainbow Lorikeet's experimental, noise-indebted techno wouldn't be out of place on any Opal Tapes release, though the climactic, turgescent arrangement on "Electrical Fauna", taken from the artist's brand new five-track EP Mind's Far Continents, hints at an indeterminate urgency that the acclaimed UK label's products sometimes lack – even if the five minute long piece does not find a resolution either, eventually deciding to collapse into oblivion. The accompanying video, made by Broken Machine Films and premiered here today, perfectly complements the music's uneasy dancefloor impressions. When all is said and done, the club is still a nightmare.

Since early September, Red Bull Music Academy Radio has been broadcasting an excellent, widely varied program out of a remarkably upscale pop up studio at the heart of Kreuzberg's Wrangelkiez. Surely a great contribution to Berlin's musical landscape, sadly the whole project will come to its end this weekend. This however won't happen in silence: instead, the radio folks are taking over the esteemed Watergate for a farewell night with a truly stunning lineup, featuring performances and sets by Detroit veteran Moodyman, Hamburg deranged house legend DJ Koze, plus Ninja Tune's FaltyDL, resident DJ La Fleur, Resom, and Spencer.

You know what's good? This is. This and the fact that sincere and simple, heartfelt music will never die out. We used to call this "lo-fi" and were excited about this fact alone, but in 2013, all this finally doesn't matter anymore. Street Gnar is the project of some dudes somewhere in Kentucky, a place, so we'd like to believe, where you have all the time in the world to come up with the most delicious little pop gems. And as you see, it works: After a debut tape on cherished Night-People in 2011 and a few more releases here and there, Street Gnar join Atelier Ciseaux' famed roster to drop an EP full of slightly melancholic melodies that gently reflect the mild, refracted lights of a late summer's afternoon. This is all very low-key and lovely in the simplest of ways, which makes it all so damn irresistible. Sursum corda, summer will return.

Last week, we featured a remix by Copenhagen-based, Sacramento-born native and Time No Place affiliate Steven Jess Borth II aka CHLLNGR, wondering about the direction the young producer might be headed after 2011's Haven and last year's compelling EP Datter. Quite surprisingly, the answer arrives in the form of a collaboration with fellow California native Doctor Echo, a 27-minute mini album of sorts named Hidden Tracks. The piece's mood is indicated by the claustrophobic, uncanny cover art: the ten seamlessly linked tracks unfold a nocturnal, urban nightmarish atmosphere, with dub-heavy textures held together by piercing, insistent rhythms, occasionally enriched by unexpected guitar patterns or synth effects. Hidden Tracks makes no effort to hide its sombre sentiment, which makes the album a perfect companion for the looming days of fall.
