Tan Dollar: “Untitled”.

18 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Delighted to see that California pop group Tan Dollar has returned with another EP packed with hazy lo-fi/twee-infused guitar tunes featuring three brand new tracks and a re-recorded version of You're Pure Gold. The title suggests that Cursed might be the evaluation of yet another failed relationship (though we're not sure on that), and it's the first effort that Tan Dollar have done as a four-piece. The folks might drop a few CDs of the EP sometime soon, but till then and in any case you may head over here to download the beauty for free now. Night Manager: “Pizza Pasta”.

18 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Chances are you've already read the news over at the Zones yesterday, but in case you haven't and because the fine folks hit us up as well, here's the brand new tune by long-standing NFOP darlings and currently most exciting Brooklyn noisy surf enthusiasts Night Manager. Calling this one a stylistic shift would probably be inordinate, yet it's a pleasure to be confronted with some more mellow vibes coming from this usually rather thrashy outfit. Blissful. Pizza Pasta is the a-side of Night Manager's upcoming 7 inch, due July 5 via Fire Talk. Your Children Is Beautiful: “Lightning Bug”.

17 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Philadelphia-based outfit Your Children Is Beautiful recently caught me off guard with this splendidly lo-fi guitar jam named Lightning Bug that at times has an almost classic indie pop feel to it but that all in all still remains comfortably leftfield with its deliberately raw, half-baked charme. Has had some rather heavy rotation here as of late. Though there wasn't much else we could find out about this band, rumor has it that there's gonna be a full-length named Die Cool sometime soon. We'll keep you posted. Premiere: Yalls - “Weave It”.

16 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Stoked to announce the first physical release by Bay Area's most cherished lunatic beat folk phenomenon Yalls. The stellar folks over at MJ MJ Records sent over this strumming, guitar-laden slow jam named Weave It, fresh off Yalls' self-titled dual cassette which not only contains both digital EP's released so far, Rerepeater and How Much We Have Lost, but in addition nine brand new tunes. You can pre-order Yalls now over here. Oh, and don't you forget about that Kickstarter thing. Echo Lake: “Another Day”.

16 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Take a listen to the wonderfully lush, swirling new Echo Lake tune Another Day, perfectly shoegazey dream-pop from one of our favorite London outfits. The track is the a-side from Echo Lake's forthcoming 7 inch on No Pain In Pop. The single is due July 18 and should be up for pre-orders pretty soon over here, but you may get lost in the splendid wash of echo and reverb just as well right now: Read more → Take a listen to the wonderfully lush, swirling new Echo Lake tune Another Day, perfectly shoegazey dream-pop from one of our favorite London outfits. Bendik: “Blåsar Vekk”.

16 Jun 2011 — Tonje Thilesen

After playing a show which left the festival audience of Huset Ved Sjøen in Oslo last week with wide eyes and even more frequent jaw drops, Norway's upcoming pop queen Bendik aka Silje Halstensen is breaking barriers with her slightly new, fine-polished sound. I could do nothing but to gasp while witnessing what used to be a hidden gem at Urørt, explode and turn the heavens upside down — a power I'm quite sure many of the fellow musicians around me at the narrow pier in front of the stage felt a twinge of envy for not possessing themselves.

Naturally, the track Blåsar Vekk taken from her recent release Stille is one of my own favourites from the EP. Almost exactly four minutes into the song, Bendik and her loyal band takes an unexpected turn, evolving from that particular sonorous and almost innocent sound into a huge, atmospheric composition in the veins of post-rock, which truly shows us the strongest side of Siljes beautiful voice.

Even though you might not understand the words, I strongly advise you to spend six of your valuable minutes to listen to the whole thing (preferably on some good speakers, too). One thing is quite certain, however: Bendik needs to be experienced live.

Dreams West: “Volvo”.

15 Jun 2011 — Henning Lahmann
My Mom used to drive a Volvo, I think it was the most unspectacular car one could ever imagine. But on the other hand, it wasn't such a rad eighties type like the one in the picture above. So anyway, totally loving this shattered radio-sampling day-glo snippet by North Carolina producer Dreams West. Cop Volvo along with another rather new-ish track named EMC Corporation, both splendidly hazy daydream nostalgia pieces slightly reminiscent of those ancient times when we still were excited about, eh, "chillwave", i.e. 2009. Check the dude's Soundcloud for more sampled bedroom glory.
