I'm stuck with a dull and happy big grin since I've listened to this tooth-achingly sweet jam of purest pop perfection this morning.
Sugar Pie is the latest coup of Sam Mehran aka
Outer Limits Recordings' ever expanding universe of blissful hypnagogia that effortlessly transcends any boundaries anyone could've ever attached to this blurry genre tag. His wonderful approach to pop music has made my days for a good while now - watch out for quite a few new releases to surface soon, starting with the joint effort by our darlings
Transparent and
Olde English Spelling Bee to drop the OLR/The Sweethearts (still him)
I Need My TV 7 inch, as well as the
Julie b/w Plastik Child 7 inch.
Pre-order now, and listen to all tracks over at OESB's
Soundcloud page.

Joe Knight from ex-Texas/now San Francisco hypnagogic pop project
Rangers generously sent over his latest tune this weekend.
Zombies is a hazy and nostalgic post Halloween slow burner, perfect for the morning after or the inevitable comedown in between, a mellow and sugary bass line leading through a track full of 80s infused guitar weeps and distorted, VHS/video game leaning synth sounds. After Rangers' outstanding
Suburban Tours LP earlier this year on
OESB,
Zombies is the first song from a new EP or LP that's gonna be released "hopefully sometime before the new year or at the start", being conceived as a "straight up pop album".
Also, don't miss Rangers' stellar split single with
Ducktails on Not Not Fun's rad
Bored Fortress 7 Inch Club. The tune,
The Brides Of Marin, actually comprises a good deal of what has become
Zombies.

She couldn't remember how long she had been lying there now, on the kitchen floor, sleeping. She didn't dare to open her eyes. Not yet. That dream... All others were long gone. The balloons...were there any balloons left? She couldn't tell. It didn't matter anymore. She didn't feel anything at all anymore - or did she? Wait, there was something...now she realized. She was covered in confetti, millions of tiny confetti shreds, blue, yellow, green, purple, red confetti shreds. She was falling asleep again, smiling. There was something else, after all.
Confetti Dreams is the new project of Burlington, Vermont's Erin Cavellier aka
Lady Lioness.
This post is dedicated to the memory of
Delicious Scopitone. I think they might have loved these songs as well.

OK, I feel like I've got a confession to make as a creative disclaimer for this write-up. Yes, there was a time way back in the nineties when I still was an ignorant kid that I used to be into the Smashing Pumpkins, even, admittedly, very much so. And now that you know and apparently continue to read nonetheless, I'm more than happy that my all time favorite Pumpkins song (the one that I actually and shamelessly still adore) has finally been covered, moreover by none other than our admired Grenoble dream pop advocate
A.P. Witomski. He has achieved to transform
Mayonaise into a tune that has its place in second decade of the 21st century, preserving Corgan's melancholy while adding some distinct features of contemporary pop music. Along with his stunningly beautiful song
Canionical that had surfaced roughly two weeks ago, Witomski is heading into an ever more promising musical direction. Listen to more of his recent stuff as well as his lovely debut album
Nine Melodies & Other Visions over at his
bandcamp.

Just before the last,
blog community shattering day of this year's daylight saving time months comes to an end, I'm definitely in the mood of getting a little rougher, so I've figured that
Weird Korea's epic, nearly nine minute spanning garage rock masterpiece
Dagger that was dropped into my inbox this week might just be the right thing to express my overall spirit right now. The Purchase, New York outfit has managed to compose a piece of gorgeously raw beauty, valve amplified, somehow 70s rock informed complete with guitar solos and organ parts that has kept me awestruck almost all day. The song, and one hell of a song it is, is part of Weird Korea's debut EP
No Art // No Trade, available for free via the group's
bandcamp.

Totally stoked by these dark and glooming sample works by Cleveland's very own beat wizard
Delofi. LA's fabulous
Leaving Records put up his latest tape
Leaving as their seventh free release on Thursday. The 22-minute piece contains twelve cuts of the artist, all absolutely terrific explorations into sound and space, with a lot of tape hiss and abstract synth effects. Listen to three of the tracks below and then download the whole thing
