Kaleidoscope Announces Fourth Release, Orphan’s “Retakes”

patten's Kaleidoscope venture has probably been last year's most exciting underground pop startup, being a label that is as humble as it is exceptional. For those not yet familiar with Kaleidoscope's "Limited Dubs" concept, the imprint drops cassettes in ridiculously small editions (so far between five and thirteen tapes, to be precise), each one singular insofar as the music was recorded live straight to tape with additional effects, with the inevitable (and deliberate) result that no two tapes sound exactly the same. The fourth release of the series will arrive soon, it is entitled Retakes and was created by hitherto unknown and still mysterious female artist Orphan, and though we have no further information to enlighten you except for the fact that she is based in South London, what we can say right now is that the five movements on Retakes are among the most exciting and fresh abstract dance music that we've come across in quite a while. The six unique C35 tapes will be out April 22, as usual accompanied by a free digital release on the same day. Watch this space. Highly recommended.
