The wind and the trees.

Wind Forest is the recording moniker of 21 year old Garett Pierre Rogers from Holt, Michigan, and under that name he composes blissful bedroom dreampop we've learned to love so unapologetically. Floating Treescope is Rogers' first EP, published yesterday and available for free on wind Forest's bandcamp.

Blending almost classic new wave electro synth pop with more dreamy and fuzzy elements that are not too far away from latter-day chillwave, the EP's wonderful second track Wakey Wakeyyyy sounds like it was a song written for some out of reach girl, performed desperately underwater.

All That Really Lasts.

Like dark clouds slowly emerging on a warm and flawless summer day, the haunting and meandering post-folk anthem All That Really Lasts thievishly and inescapably wraps up your consciousness, sneakily unfolding its dark yet compelling beauty over the course of its eight minutes, until an off kilter wind section takes control for a dreadful and breathtaking finish.

All That Really Lasts is one of four brilliant studies in state of the art experimental folk by Portland, Maine resident Jakob Battick and his friends' latest output Heavy the Mountains, Heavy are the Seas which can be purchased via the band's bandcamp.

Monika Krol is London's one-woman psychedelic noise phenomenon Meddicine, tantalizing harsh synth tones, chasing drum machine beats and above all Monika's distorted vocals that will haunt you for the rest of the day. Enough said, we're stoked.

The sun was high. The warm sand felt good on your feet, and while you were watching your kids' cheerful games, the sound of gently breaking waves made you drowsy, guiding you into a relaxing nap on the beach. But the second you woke up, you realized something had changed, something was terribly wrong. Where had all the cheering gone? Where was everybody? And - what was that thing over there, slowly walking into the ocean?

Though we might be lucky and this poorest vision of a horror movie will never be actually shot, in any case, Santa Cruz, California's Austin Wood aka Atlantic at Pacific has already written the score. His debut Weddings is a stunning piece of twisted surf hypnagogia, laid back yet somehow enigmatically dark, as if Wood wanted to warn us not to trust the summer's amenities.

Weddings will be out August 24 on Alchemist Records.

It appears that Albuquerque, New Mexico has one of the most overlooked and underestimated music scenes in the States. Or, in any case, at least Bryce Hample and Emma Crane coalesce enough creativity to let any other state drown in jealousy. While the former has already stirred up everyone on this side of the good taste mark line with his drone ambient project Hedia, Emma aka The Arsonist has only very recently been introduced on these humble pages. Together, they make the most beautiful haunting folk as Elephant Paintings, sparsely orchestrated yet harmony driven gems that'll make you feel the hopelessness of life without leaving you in despair. Devastatingly gorgeous.

Edit: Elephant Paintings' self titled debut cassette is out on Featherspines and distributed via Bridgetown Records. There're only a few copies left, so waste no time.

I stumbled across this guy's bandcamp yesterday, and ever since that magical moment I've been wasting hour after hour just getting lost in Sherry's lonesome yet heart-warming cosmos of echo-laden washes of guitar and slowly captivating rhythm, topped by a forlorn astronaut's longing and crooning voice. Elen Never Sleeps is a 24 year old Tokyo citizen cryptically named "dlp", but as we all have learned, our shared cultural history is crowded with mysterious captains leading condemned ships into perdition - and though we are aware of the dangers, whatever galaxy you're heading to, we'll follow anyway. We know we have to.

According to Guerre's Lavurn Lee, "a filler song before the new EP". Well, we don't care what it is. The important thing is that it's just as beautiful as expected.

We couldn't find out anything about this beat wizard that records under the brief and rather mysterious moniker yuk., but after listening to the instrumental magic below which is slightly reminiscent of Flying Lotus you'll probably agree with me that in any case, suffice it to tell you that yuk.'s debut release A D W A is available soon via LA's wonderful Leaving Records. Go order.
