Drip City.

10 Dec 2010 — Henning Lahmann
Portland, Oregon psych duo Chrome Wings has dropped another gem of finest ambient soundscapes, slowly meandering synth patterns and some calm and carried away vocals in the distance, all held together by an unagitated, steady rhythm section that makes you feel all warm and quiet while you're gently floating around. Watch out for their 10 inch that is to be released sometime soon via Amdiscs. Running Out of You.

My favorite Swede Oskar premiered DannielRadall's re-work of Keep Shelly in Athens' Running Out of You last night, and now this year's most irresistible dancefloor hymn has been transformed into a palatably sleazy nu-disco stomper, a spellbinding piece of late night erotica that is quite far from the original but just as compelling. White.

With a myspace layout which will probably make you have an epileptic seizure, I honestly did not expect the music of the portuguese three-piece Evols to be so pure and soulful, as well as taking inspiration from so many genres that it becomes hard to put them into just one category. To me they may sound like a more stripped and slowed down Faust, leading the krautrock-inspired sound in a more ambient direction. Buy one of their 500 limited edition vinyls, or stream the album here. Walkabout.

09 Dec 2010 — Henning Lahmann
Our most adored little cassette label Wonder Beard Tapes has just announced its next release, Walkabout by Chicago resident Anthony Engelhardt's project Ra Cailum. The tape is a splendid collection of slow-burning, dream infusing synth jams, totally relaxed and contemplating, in a way that kind of music some folks used to call "chillwave" back in the days but after all at its core this is just a simply beautiful séance in its own right. Pre-order the tape over here, or get the whole thing for free digitally at bandcamp. Angel-Headed.

Before it's time to end this day, some wonderful pop music by Brooklyn's Mainland Fever, a quartet gathered in Dumbo around Jordan Topf who obviously brought some sunshine from his Californian home to the warehouses between the bridges, as Angel-Headed is a light-hearted and uplifting piece of soul, all beautifully reverb-laden guitars and harmony-driven vocals, just in time to forget for once all that untypically early December snow that will probably stay in Berlin's streets till March. Perhaps it’s for the better.

Without much ado, a little pop perfection for your esteemed aural organs, another serious 50s throwback by one man miracle Spectrals, known to his friends as Louis Jones, with all of Yorkshire's melancholy compressed into a purest gem of gently sliding guitars and Jones' sweet and mourning voice. Seriously, this tune is killing me right now. Taken from A Spectrals Extended Play, now out via Moshi Moshi on CD and Underwater Peoples on 12 inch vinyl. Some Kind of Monster.

08 Dec 2010 — Henning Lahmann
Two fresh cuts by Pittsburgh beat enigma Specialist Morgen J, as usual subtly deranged and off-kilter, not exactly useful for anything and slightly outdated, yet still all in all strangely captivating and somehow awesome and timeless - oh yes indeed, I think I'm talking about a musical lava lamp.
