Galapagos: “You Gave 2 Me”.

08 Aug 2011 — Tonje Thilesen
Arizona resident and producer Jacob McNaughton aka Galapagos (not to be mixed with Melbourne based Galapagoose) is back with his fourth EP release this year, as usual full of glitchy synthpop tunes which at times may have a strong influence of our own superstar Star Slinger. Big Cat is definitely far more upbeat and summer vibed than his earlier releases, which have had a more chill, ahem, ambient leaning sound. Download the EP for free here. Henny Moan: “Force Feld 1”.

08 Aug 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Always delighted to find new Henny Moan tunes up on his Soundcloud, as the London-based master of weird and deranged beats perfectly knows how to transcribe the arcane peculiarities of latter day pop culture into little gems of agreeable if twisted sound infusion, very much like his fans over at HW. Needless to say, Force Feld 1 is no exception. Slutet: “Tuner”.

06 Aug 2011 — Tonje Thilesen

With roots from Gothenburg, the experimental pop outfit Slutet is a name behind many sounds: sometimes eternal, breezy psych-pop or sometimes a more noisy, organic feel, often leaning towards the electronic genre. However, they still seem to be in the progress of finding 'their' particular sound, always experimenting with new textures in hopes of evolving into something even bigger, and they are indeed walking on the right path to success. Having recently recorded a splendid live session with Pool Sessions, we're also excited for our own hot date with these Swedish experimentalists, hopefully for an upcoming NFOP Session this fall.

Check out their myspace page for more tunes, or grab their untitled debut EP right here.

Flower Orgy: “Powderfinger”.

05 Aug 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Denver's splendid Fire Talk Records sent over this blissful cover of Neil Young's Powderfinger, marvelously executed by Brooklyn outfit Flower Orgy with a little help by Alex Bleeker shredding the guitar on this one, a tune that instantly evokes all summery feelings you could ever hope for, and listening to this I have to say that I've never found a band name more aptly chosen. Bleeker also recorded most of the songs that comprise the group's self-titled cassette on Fire Talk that's now up for pre-order over here. Highly recommended if you have just a little bit of love in your heart. Video Premiere: Vehicle Blues - “Field Kids”.

05 Aug 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Here's the brand new video for Field Kids by our favorite fuzz popper Gabe Holcombe aka Vehicle Blues, who's got another split tape ready together with Katrina Stonehart. The pro-dubbed cassette comes in an edition of 100 and will be dropped August 16 via the artists' own imprints Lillerne and Solid Melts. That's the wonderful cover art by Barrett Emke above, and the piece below was done by the incredibly talented Jónó Mí Ló. Possimiste: “Behind The Seas”.

04 Aug 2011 — Tonje Thilesen

At only 18 years of age, we can all agree on that the Estonian experimental pop goddess Possimite have managed to create her own very unique and northern-like sound, clearly in the veins of the Icelandic superstars Björk and Jónsi. Her fourth and maybe so far best single Behind The Seas is a splendid little piece of artwork, filled with poppy harmonica textures and atmospheric breakthroughs. Head over to her own website to discover some more gorgeous tunes. Possimiste - Behind The Seas Possimiste - Poppy Read more →

Orchard Thief: “On My Back”.

03 Aug 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Ronnie Lee of the wonderful blissed-out bedroom pop project Panda Teeth recently hit me up to draw my attention to his pretty awesome label Cat People Records, a small operation dedicated to smooth yet experimental leftfield pop. He only recently started to make it "official", so it's a real pleasure for me to introduce you to one of his first releases since getting things organized. Samuel Merlin Molstad aka Orchard Thief has actually been around for quite a while now, with the CDr Work already finished and subsequently dropped via Cat People in 2009, and fairly recently a cassette on Fire Talk Records. However, the Work (Plus) cassette that Lee put out about a month ago is way more than a mere re-release, with "an entire album’s worth of previously unreleased tracks that have just been sitting around on a shelf, un-heard for the last two years". The whole album is a marvelously quiet and melodic piece of outsider pop, far away from anything hype-suspicious yet still very consciously crafted all along. Listen to the beautiful opening track On My Back below and order the Work (Plus) C-60 over here. The album is also available on bandcamp. CFCF: “Cometrue (Physical Therapy Deep Forest Mix)”.

03 Aug 2011 — Henning Lahmann
Physical Therapy might be one of the most exciting remixers du jour and he definitely is one of our absolute favs at the moment, so it was a delight last night to see our friends over at The Fader premiering not only CFCF's latest single Cometrue but also this amazing rework by our enigmatic dancefloor wizard. The Cometrue 12 inch is out now via UNO Records.
