Premiere: Ghosting Season - “Time Without Question (Russell.M.Harmon Remix)”.

14 Jun 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Shortly after we introduced you to the Reykjavik based producer Russell Harmon, our friends behind Ghosting Season, whom also happens to be the discoverers of Russell Harmon in the first place, promised us that a remix of one of their tracks was soon about to find its way to our inbox. It happened to take a bit more time than predicted, but didn't particularly surprise me in the first place. Harmon apparently has a tendency to be quite the perfectionist, at the same time as trying to live up to the works to another Iceland resident, obviously the one and only Ben Frost. And of course is Ben Frost one of the first names that will come to mind when listening to Harmon's slow drenching, but beautifully static compositions, however more stripped-down in sound and less organic than the ambient-leaning works of Frost himself. Even though Harmon's remix of Ghosting Season's "Time Without Question" has a clean; almost strict structure, the atmosphere from the original still remains, and gives us yet another reason to be very excited about the future of this dude, similar to Ben Frost or not. We previously stated that his EP was supposed to come out in mid-March (something that obviously never really happened), so for now I guess all we can do is to sit still and patiently wait for Russell Harmon to feel satisfied about his pieces, satisfied enough to make an EP/album out of them. Something he really should be, by all means. Here's the original as well: Read more → Shortly after we introduced you to the Reykjavik based producer Russell Harmon, our friends behind Ghosting Season, whom also happens to be the discoverers of Russell Harmon in the first place, promised us that a remix of one of their tracks was soon about to find its way to our inbox. The Slaves: “River”.

13 Jun 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Utterly impressed by this tranquilized, husky new tune from the Portland-duo The Slaves, whom just announced that their debut LP Spirits of the Sun is coming out next month on Digitalis. "River" has a doom-drenched, mysterious feel, however breaking into landscapes of shoegaze throughout its lush nine minutes and fifty-three seconds, making your consciousness want to float silently over stormy shorelines, watching the landscape unfold beneath your feet. We can't find anywhere to pre-order it just yet, but will hopefully be announced soon over at Digitalis' Bandcamp page. Nguzunguzu: “Delirium”.

13 Jun 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Quite likely one of the most hotly anticipated EPs of 2012, Nguzunguzu's Warm Pulse is a staggering example of the thriving contemporary LA beat scene and surely one of this year's outstanding contributions in its field. Those of you who were lucky enough to be present at Hippos In Tanks' Berghain showcase last Friday will also confirm that Daniel Pineda and Asma Maroof know how to throw a decent party. Here's the first track off the EP to be unveiled, "Delirium". Take a listen below. The Warm Pulse EP will be out July 3 (digitally) and August 14 (physically) via Hippos In Tanks. Luka: “Midnight”.

13 Jun 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Rouge's Foam's Adam Harper hit me up the other day with a recommendation to check out Tartu, Estonia's singer Luka, who he had seen live at this year's Tallinn Music Week, known to be the most important music industry gathering in the Baltic region and Eastern Europe. And indeed this is some excellent and very promising stuff here, definitely something a lot more people should be aware of. "Midnight" is a subtly seducing piece of lo-fi synth pop, very classy, or in Adam's words (I've tried to come up with something myself but this is just too good), "like a post-Apocalyptic James Bond film theme, from a future world where economic crises have lead to the deaths of half the world population and no one can afford anything but a casio and a pair of dusty velvet curtains and a cocktail glass but they're still dismally trying to make James Bond films. Or something." Exactly. No doubt an artist to keep an eye on. You may listen to more of her material and download it for free over here. Photo by Oskari Värä. Cuushe: “I Dreamt About Silence”.

13 Jun 2012 — Henning Lahmann
A little while back, we reported about the upcoming three-part EP Girl You Know That I Am Here But the Dream by Japanese dream pop songstress Cuushe, alongside streaming the amazing, Rachel Evans aka Motion Sickness Of Time Travel-made video for the latter's own remix of one of Cuushe's tracks, "Dust of Dreams". The EP, spread across three CDs in 3 inch format, contains three new songs by the artist, which are accompanied by an impressive range of remixes, including superb contributions by MSOTT and Julia Holter. Listen to one of Cuushe's original songs below, the feather-light "I Dreamt About Silence", and re-visit Rachel Evans' rework here. Girl You Know That I Am Here But the Dream is out on Flau. Video: Fear Of Men - “Green Sea”.

13 Jun 2012 — Henning Lahmann
With their slightly eerie, melancholic and faintly hopeless aura yet invariably beautiful melodies, UK outfit Fear Of Men might very well be our favorite indie pop band right now, just in case you were wondering. We've already heard both songs of their forthcoming 7 inch, "Green Sea" and "Born", a while back, and yesterday the folks unveiled the appropriately foggy (and melancholic!) video for the A-side. Watch it below. “Green Sea” is out June 18 via London's Sexbeat, limited edition of 300 copies. Pre-order here. William Cody Watson: “Bill Murray LP”.

13 Jun 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Does it make any sense at all to say that someone is not only your favorite, no, but indeed also the most important actor of your life? Sounds weird. But if so, just in case, mine is Mr Bill Murray. See, now you have it. I could now start telling you about all his movies that mean so much to me and why, but seriously, who'd actually be interested in that? Right. So let's focus on something else instead, a very good thing to know: Apparently, I'm not alone. Arkansas native and "1/16th Cherokee" William Cody Watson fka Pink Priest/Malibu Wands/Gremlynz has the same kind of unashamed affection for this actor. In his own words: "A true legendary figure, confused maybe, depressed perhaps; in search of something more." Unlike me however, Watson knew what to do with his feelings: to channel them creatively. So he made this record, the Bill Murray LP, eleven movements of gently meandering ambient, melancholic and probably sad yet never depressed or depressing, those sublime pieces aptly reflect the personality of most of Murray's character, and perhaps of the man himself. In any case, for Watson, the LP is "the most important piece of music I've ever made", an avowal that can be heard and felt throughout the record. You can listen to the Bill Murray LP while lying around in bed, or wandering across town at night, or driving through the countryside, or while watching your favorite Bill Murray movie, you know, the one that you've watched a thousand times anyway so you know what it's about and what they're saying. It's really nice, I've tried. Not sure if Bill would approve of that of course, but something tells me he would. The Bill Murray LP is out June 26 via Bathetic. The label is giving away some free copies of the record: The way to get one is to simply represent Bill Murray in the most creative way possible. Dress up like your favorite Murray character, hang out with a photo of Bill in your favorite spot, make out with a Bill Murray lookalike, write a poem about your love of Bill Murray on a brick wall or YOUR OWN BODY. The sky's the limit... Ultimately, we just want to see the way you document your Murray love. Snap a pic of you showing off your admiration, and email it to: batheticrecords@gmail.com. The deadline for the photo submissions is June 22. Listen to the record's last movement "Ode" below.
