Premiere: Félicia Atkinson - “Franny”.

17 Jul 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Here's a brand new cut from NFOP favourite Félicia Atkinson, the Paris-born artistic beauty that you may also know from JE SUIS LE PETIT CHEVALIER. Following her February release so beautifully entitled On Being Kind To Horses (an extraordinary, soul-enchanting ambient piece that could nearly fall into the same cathedral-spaced category as Tim Hecker), this new A-side below moves away from the massively altering sound and into a dark and minimal, grunge-y setting; definitely some of the "weirdest" this French goddess have provided us with so far. The 7 inch will be available soon for orders via Cooper Cult. Le Galaxie: “Love System”.

17 Jul 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Behold. Spaceships! Synthesizers! This heavily Ford & Lopatin-influenced quartet sure got it going in the right direction, whom according to facebook have decided to name their hometown "Europe", apparently keeping their identities under a veil of mystery. Literally touching every tacky sound you could ever wish for, "Love System" below is nicely wrapped up under the light of a disco ball, annoyingly catchy, dreamy vocals, and just the way we like it. Stream the EP Fade 2 Forever via The Delphi Label. The 10 inch white vinyl is also available at London's Rough Trade. Read more → Behold. Spaceships! Synthesizers! AyluxKindred: “Come Back Slow”.

17 Jul 2012 — Henning Lahmann
More new material by our Bristol man Hamish Trevis aka Kinlaw, this time in collaboration with Buenos Aires-based artist Aylu. The two go together pretty well, with Trevis adding his signature layers of dark, menacing beatwork and drone over Aylu's playful and considerably brighter, guitar-based ambient. "Come Back Slow" will be part of a tape to be released by Reckno sometime soon. Blue Daisy x Unknown Shapes: “Beautiful Nightmare”.

16 Jul 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Finally the first track off Bedtime Stories for you to listen to, the excellent new EP by North London producer Blue Daisy in cooperation with elusive project Unknown Shapes (there are in fact triangles in that latter name, but we prefer not to use them). The aptly entitled "Beautiful Nightmare" is all dense, haunting electronics, thoroughly gripping and immersive and surely the best thing in melancholia-infused UK bass right now, at least until that Holy Other record finally drops. Bedtime Stories is out August 6 on the brilliant Black Acre Records. NFOP x Noisekölln: Sean Nicholas Savage / Ensemble Economique.

16 Jul 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Once again we've joined forces with the mighty Noisekölln crew to bring you the hip of the day, this time presenting a massive showcase with two long-standing NFOP favorites, Montréal's unrivaled master of supremely deranged pop vibes and mainstay of the famed Arbutus family, Sean Nicholas Savage, and one of the finest contemporary experimental musicians, California's Brian Pyle aka Ensemble Economique, who's just dropped his amazing split LP with Lee Noble on French imprint Hands In The Dark. The two will be supported by the Berlin-based droneheads Fausto Maijstral aka Italian-born DuChamp and New Zealand native Will Gresson, and our beloved XORZYZT on the turntables. If you, like we ourselves, don't see anything more exciting scheduled for Thursday night, then come by and have a good time with us. We'd love to have you there. The event will happen this Thursday, July 19, once again at Raum in Neukölln, Ziegrastraße 15, starting at 9pm. For more info go here. Video Sunday vol. 35

We have to admit that this week's Video Sunday is a very fine one indeed, featuring an absolutely splendid piece by Patrick Ryan Morris for the Washington's post-rock influenced outfit Drop Electric, alongside another mesmerizing piece by Mpumelo Mcata, visualizing Motèl Mari's absolutely amazing "Just Like A King". Oh, and let's not forget the rest of them: Kouta, Husky Rescue, NOIR CŒUR, Purity Ring, Nite Jewel, Berlin's S ND Y P RL RS, and Ages. NFOP SESSIONS #11: Birthdays.

14 Jul 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Out of all the different people I have met in my life, few can compete with the kindness and life energy of the internet friends I met while in United States back in March, music bloggers and musicians alike, creating strong, international bonds between each other in order to create an open community with people who share the same passion for music. After our very first meet 'in real life' as human beings of flesh and blood, you suddenly realize how familiar these people may seem; a little bit like greeting an old friend after years of being apart. It's a strangely beautiful thing, as we sincerely believe that some of our best friends are people who live on the opposite side of the planet, connected to us through invisible strains of information, or in other words, that addictive little thing we call internet. And even though it's not often, you will always meet these people again somehow. Maybe in a different city, or on a different continent. Distance is overrated. During a short trip up to Boston towards the end of March, I finally got to hang out with one of the city's finest souls around, NFOP favourite and friend Samuel Yager aka Birthdays. As with nearly all the people we know in NYC and Boston, Samuel is too a part of our dearest collective FMLY. Alongside his best buddy Cameron Potter (Little Spoon) and 1/2 of the famous Pelly twins Liz Pelly, these beautiful people arrange strictly DIY-based concert nights at Dreamhouse, inviting local bands and good friends to play their psych-infused bedroom tunes for a bunch of friendly kids. Not to be missed if you're a Boston local, in other words. In our third edition of NFOP SESSIONS' A Love Letter To FMLY, Birthdays plays us "I'm Keeping Some of Mine For Me" in his bedroom in Allston, Boston. Feel the love below. Premiere: Germany Germany ft. Arrange - “The Sea and The Sun”.

14 Jul 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Under the aid of Canada's Germany Germany, this beautiful collaboration track below pretty much sums up why we love Arrange so much; having recently scored his finest review so far over at Pitchfork. And I do believe we forgot to mention anything about Malcom Lacey's third full-lenght, New Memory at all, so please forgive us. Just don't forget who told you about him in the first place. After a year in the making, Germany Germany's sixth release Blank Mind Empty Heart will be out on July 20th.
