Enigmatic London collective Old Apparatus have been turning heads since they launched their imprint Sullen Tone earlier this year, which explores the corners of UK underground. Alfur is the second chapter of a 12 inch trilogy that the collective's been working on, each installment produced by a different member. In this case, A. Levitas takes the reigns on Alfur and pushes the unsettling and opaque signature of Old Apparatus in a slightly trippier direction, drawing a discernible line from early '90s Bristol to the cinematic soundscapes of early Amon Tobin and South London sounds of the 21st century. (Ad Hoc co-premiere)
Alfur is out digitally October 8 and on vinyl the 29th via Sullen Tone.

Menacing, sinister rhythms by LA producer Sean Nelson aka Shivastep, beats from deep below that linger somewhere between straightforward bass, West Coast-indebted instrumental hip-hop, and some pretty sophisticated footstep borrowings, all thrown together and mercilessly blown up, resulting in one of the most instantly danceable guilty pleasures of 2012. The beatsmith's self-titled EP is out today via Track Number Records. While you already had the chance to listen to the whole work last week via our friends over at Electronic Beats, we're happy to unveil the free download of the whole piece via the artist's Soundcloud today. Don't dare to miss out on this.

Berlin's mighty Leisure System, not only known for their relentless Berghain nights but also for dropping 12 inch releases that might not arrive all that often but when they do, they invariably and reliably hit hard. The fourth EP by the still fairly young imprint will be the debut four-track effort by Jets, a fresh project that unites the strengths of two of contemporary dancefloors' finest, Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum and Jimmy Edgar. No full track to stream so far, but you may listen to a snippet of EP closer "Lock Lock Key" below. The massive 12 inch is due October 29. Pre-oder over here.

It's faint to realize how long it has actually been since we last heard anything from Birthdays, the charming weirdo and creator of rich, psychedelic pop recorded in the hip Boston neighbourhood Allston. Sammy has however been keeping himself busy — constantely on tour (most recently in Japan), changing people's imagination of weird psych-pop little by little, often accompanied by his best friend Little Spoon. As the two of them are ready to kick off a US tour starting today at the lovely Boston collective Dreamhouse, his self-titled EP has finally found its way to the cassette and mp3 format; packed with euphoric, psychedelic jams that we've been dying to hear on record for oh so long.

Been a little while since Unknown's last transmission of ethereal beatworks, but it's a delight to see the young enigma's skills ever growing, as brilliantly showcased on the tenth track that finds its way through the blogosphere's open plains. Still no further announcements, but I guess we can all hope for something proper to appear sometime soon. For now, get lost once again.

The one and only Cecil Frena is back on the face of the earth with a brand new album under his moniker (and long-standing NFOP favourite) Born Gold. Having just released the first single out for the public ear, Frena clearly takes a different path from his terror pop effort Bodysongs, but with the intellectual hooks and strange, however supremely precice production intact. Many more surprises await as Little Sleepwalker drops on October 23rd via audraglint, so ladies and gentlemen, be prepared.
