Los Angeles resident Alex Gray (of Deep Magic/Deep Tapes) dropped his latest HEAT WAVE mix yesterday, and anyone who's ever stumbled across one of his massive sound collages of deranged beats and psychedelic excursions will be aware that these are the most alluring and mind-altering trips this side of actual drug-taking. All others should find out now.
The mix comes with an attached new years' message from Alex to his homies and loved ones:
"2012 YALL — FOR ALL THE GREAT HOMIES OF 2011 — CAMERON STALLONES, BARRETT AVNER, SEAN MCCANN, MATTHEW SULLIVAN, VICTORIA O’HANLON, CRISTY MOORE, BRITT STERN, MY FAM, TEDDY SKUPIEN, JARED CABASUG, ALEX TWOMEY, JEFF WISCHER, MAX, CHARLOTTE, FALKO, SAMANTHA CORNWELL, GEORGE & CHRISTINA, MOON GLYPH, ANDREW KHEDOORI + ALL THE REST THAT REACHED OUT TO A NOTHING MOTHERFUCKER LIKE ME."
FUCKD IN THA GAME is out now digitally and will come on CD in late February. Buy it here.

Don't have any further information about this one but it's apparently a new tune by Ford & Lopatin's Joel Ford aka Airbird, and the groove has instantly infected my headphones, which is never ever a bad sign.

With Lately, Cough Cool's Dan Svizeny only recently delivered a perfect example of post-internet slacker shoegaze, but the dude just won't stop, casually dropping another collection of mellow, fuzzed-out sound collages with his new split with Marseille's own distorted surf exponent Johnny Hawaii. Below, take an exclusive look at the appropriately drugged, psych-leaning visualization of "Disney Again", yet another perfectly unwinding piece of hazy pop melancholia.
The split tape will be released tomorrow, January 3, jointly via French quality imprints La Station Radar, Atelier Ciseaux, and Hands In The Dark. Limited edition of 100.

Very cool brand new split 7 inch between Brisbane group Nite Fields and also Brisbane-born but now Brooklyn-based Eleanor Logan aka noise pop project Happy New Year. The vinyl is the first release by the new artist-run label Lost Race Records, also based in said Australian city.
Listen to both songs below and order the 7 inch (official release date is January 9) for eight dollars directly via lostracerecords@gmail.com, limited edition of 150. Happy new year indeed.

I do know that I'm a little late on this, but the fact that Chicago-based Elon Katz is about to drop his debut full-length with his synth-heavy project White Car is something to get really really excited about, especially after listening to the album track "Now We Continue".
Everyday Grace is out February 28 via Hippos In Tanks.

In related news, recently Elon posted the all-new "internet single" (strange times we live in) "Genevieve", another very worthwhile tune from the synth side of life:

This beautiful, 6-minute long shoegaze dream popped up on OktaSeeYou's soundcloud page yesterday, a newly emerged producer from Toulouse, France whom we also covered back in December, in case you happen to remember. In lack of a normally functioning brain today (of obvious reasons), let's skip the talking. Listen below.

We hope y'all are having a lovely hangover after last night's festives (on this first day of 2012), and hopefully our sixth session in Berlin's Tiergarten with NFOP regular Ghost Animal will make you feel better. Unfortunately Ghost Animal's other half Marisa wasn't able to join us, but at least Michael was more than happy to play us a brand new song from their upcoming LP — on my flatmate's cheap guitar. The LP is due to 'sometime in 2012' as he says himself, and really, we can't wait for it. Listen (and watch) the lovely "Ask Me To Stay" below.
