Ronnie Lee of the wonderful blissed-out bedroom pop project
Panda Teeth recently hit me up to draw my attention to his pretty awesome label
Cat People Records, a small operation dedicated to smooth yet experimental leftfield pop. He only recently started to make it "official", so it's a real pleasure for me to introduce you to one of his first releases since getting things organized.
Samuel Merlin Molstad aka
Orchard Thief has actually been around for quite a while now, with the CDr
Work already finished and
subsequently dropped via Cat People in 2009, and fairly recently a cassette on
Fire Talk Records. However, the
Work (Plus) cassette that Lee put out about a month ago is way more than a mere re-release, with "an entire album’s worth of previously unreleased tracks that have just been sitting around on a shelf, un-heard for the last two years". The whole album is a marvelously quiet and melodic piece of outsider pop, far away from anything hype-suspicious yet still very consciously crafted all along.

Fresh cuts from the raddest and startlingly innovative Vermont-based cassette imprint
NNA Tapes, this time by a fellow hailing from this side of the Atlantic, Antwerp's Hans Dens aka
Innercity.
The Pyramids of Northeast Belgium might not exist (though you never know) but they become alarmingly real in this dense though minimal piece of electronic psychedelia, a mind-altering trip that becomes particularly intriguing with its straight techno-ish beat that's fading in and out, cursorily attempting to add some ephemeral structure to the enticing mishmash of kraut and new age.

Miami, Florida psych rockers
Lil Daggers are finally dropping their
eagerly anticipated self-titled debut LP today, and as a means of celebration the dudes also put out the album's first video for the brief but amazing tune
Dada Brown. The video was done by Miami director
Michael J. Ruiz-Unger and brings us a sick story of two slightly deranged young people, a gloomy desert scenery and a very weird surprise. See for yourself.

Splendid news from the ever-exploring
Arbutus Records, here's the first single by Montréal-based band TOPS who seem to be right on time with their shameless embrace of the gentlest strands of 70s-dripping soft rock.
Turn Your Love Around is a wonderfully lush and melodic early morning rush hour car stereo radio banger that will never be played on any radio station. Weird times.

You might remember the self-titled record that Copenhagen based Brian Batz released under the moniker Sleep Party People last year, a record which also happened to be one of my personal favourites that year, mixing Brian's own pitched-out vocals with mysterious shoegaze in the veins of Slowdive or Cocteau Twins.
On Sleep Party People newest four-track EP Remixes that dropped a few weeks ago on iTunes Store, Brian has managed to get a hold of remixes by some pretty big names — including Peter Silberman of The Antlers and minimal electronic magician Trentemøller, as well as Troels Abrahamsen from the Danish indie rock band VETO and electronic producer/singer-songwriter Mikael Simpson. The outcome is no less than superb; giving us a unique peak into the different artists own review of Sleep Party People's ghostly, blissed-out sound.
