Thanks once more to the amazing
Ashtapes, I've come across Oakland's
Glass Graves a couple of days ago which is Gaby Graves' solo effort. Situated somewhere between the Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, and
Zola Jesus, Glass Graves is a haunted, goth version of classic shoegaze themes. This is dream pop imagined during a nightmare, dark yet beautifully captivating.

These strange times we're in, there's an obvious mismatch between bloggers' anticipation and an artist's demand for their own creative output. While the blogger is already raving about the "fresh" and "rad" qualities of a tune that was recorded with the internal mac microphone (lo-fi!!! no-fi!!! shit-fi!!!), the shittier the better, the artist might well consider that very result just some demo stage tryout. However, sometimes this share of creative indifference towards the sound quality of the output is able to lead to instant stardom, see Nathan Williams' first album that was celebrated at least in part simply because of these features.

Youthbitch's latest tune, please bear in mind that it's a demo, or, in other words, not exactly meant to sound that way. Still, the rad/hip blogger somewhere deep inside me likes
Cool California just the way it is right now, and I guess it's because the way it was recorded perfectly fits the lyrics and the overall bitter irony towards contemporary Golden State hipsterdom.

Shuttling between Georgia and California, you've got plenty of time to come up with the greatest ideas to create fuzzy lo-fi experimentalism, but apparently, sometimes imagination stops when it's time to come up with a fancy name for your musical endeavour. Be that as it may, Gerry Green has named his project
Green Gerry which probably is his names interchanged, and the Athens, Ga. native makes laid-back hazy tunes that are quite experimental yet easy to listen to, presumably best digested during dreamy beach hours in the fading sunlight. On
Last.fm, somebody has tagged him as "tropical drone folk", which pretty much puts the whole thing in a nutshell.

Today, we are extraordinarily psyched to have the honor to present the first ever NFOP premiere:
Apneu.
According to
FuturePop Bookings, the quartet is Amsterdam's hottest new band right now, and though we're not really familiar with one of our favourite city's music scenes (a shame, apparently), after listening to the few tunes the band has put up on their myspace we're willing to take it for granted. Without any unnecessary bleeps, synth patterns or other hipster music must-haves (save for some subtle hand-clapping, but as you'll know, we're all about hand-clapping), the music gets straight to the point, Apneu's songs are all killer hooks and not a second too long. So let's keep it short, too: NFOP is officially stoked.

Lake Radio is the dark electronica side project of Cary, Illinois' 19 year old Caden Moore who's member of the new wave outfit
Heavy Ghost and who used to create some kind of ambient/beat electronica as
The Sky Operator. Now, Moore has made a sea change and switched to his darker side by composing slow-burning chilled out grooves that sometimes get pretty close to that currently way too much hyped thing that goes under the name "witch house" (chillwave's gloomy sister, more or less), at other times tunes that are intriguing explorations into other variations of dark electronic music.

Coolrunnings I Can Be Dreamy, a new wavey dream catcher and an appropriate teaser from his upcoming
Teenage Tn. And moreover, New South Wales pal
Sandals aka Jarred Beeler achieves to create a totally different but equally exciting tune by adding some tropical flavours and a laid-back sunshine rhythm to Coolrunnings' original. It's his first ever published track, but after this amazing effort, I hope he won't let us wait too long for the next one.
