This past Tuesday
De Stijl Records released
EARTH by
Black to Comm (a.k.a. Mark Richter). As
TMT notes, the album is the soundtrack to the 2009 silent film of the same name by
Ho Tzu Nyen, which is, according to Richter, "a post-apocalyptic collage based on paintings by classical European painters…[and my] music tries to translate that concept." With whispered samples that slither about the space between dark imagery, sparse acoustic guitar, and ominous vocals that are delivered like a chanted, high-church ritual, the video for "Water" works with a restrained sort of bustle that slowly draws you toward a heightened sense of your mortality.
