Drop Out Venus: “I Kill Foxes”.

01 Aug 2012 — Henning Lahmann
London's Drop Out Venus have most likely not come down to earth to share the joy, but the rightfully acclaimed trio's latest transmission nonetheless manages to sink even deeper into bleakness than the previous songs: After a few relatively quiet and calm seconds, "I Kill Foxes" rides on massive, fierce, and simply overwhelming washes of guitar that aggressively accompany the singer's musings of hopelessness, before the wall of sound finally collapses into an exhausted last breath of desperation. The vocal performance in fact slightly reminds me of Shannon Wright, which you may take as almost the biggest compliment imaginable. This is truly excellent stuff, though I'm still struggling to wrap my mind around the outfit's self-ascribed genre of "junk jazz". But maybe that's just me. The band's debut single "Elastic Teen Rent" b/w "I Kill Foxes" will be out September 24 on Dirty Bingo Records.
