“Wanna Party” is the latest single to find forward-thinking producers turning their craft towards vocally driven music (consider, for instance, last week’s Arca-produced FKA Twigs song “Water Me”). It’s the first taste of new musical group Future Brown, which sees Fatima Al Qadiri, Nguzunguzu (both of Fade to Mind) and J-Cush (of Lit City) joining forces to deliver cutting-edge takes on club music and hip-hop. “Wanna Party” begins with some haunting and booming chimes before rapper Tink launches in with the song’s addictive refrain, “Don’t you wanna party / put some liquor in your body.” Even if the subsequent percussion marks “Wanna Party” as clearly for the club, Future Brown’s remarkable production adds a layer of mysteriousness and other-worldliness to this party track. A developing album is planned for the future, featuring another collaboration with Tink, as well as collaborations with Shawnna, Maluca, Ian Isiah, Kelela, and more.
