Gent Mason “Eden (MMOTHS Remix)”

15 Oct 2013 — Henry Schiller

London producer Gent Mason put out the stellar track "Eden" earlier this month, and now it's been explosively remixed by MMOTHS, the pseudonym for Irish electronic musician Jack Colleran. Colleran manages to retain the elements of emotional urgency and necessity featured in the original "Eden"; indeed the song plays out in much the same narrative as it did before. But the MMOTHS take on the track is not without its radical alterations. "Eden" has gone from something sly and slippery to something expansive, heady, and violently engaging. This is what a remix should be: a series of alterations that respect the original without revering it, and neither should they obscure it completely; the biggest change to "Eden" that MMOTHS has made is a shift in the emotional perspective, and that was enough to give us something that is both a fresh track and a stunning footnote to Gent Mason's impressive work.
