It was around the seven-second mark of Green Gerry’s 2010 album Odd Tymes album that I knew I loved it. Those harmonic vocal loops on album opener “Ka, ka, ka, ka Maria” echoing from the fuzz. The leading track humming out like military orders through a megaphone. His newest album, King Baby, starts the same way, dipping from the dew of the Fleet Foxes forest of voices splitting and echoing between the branches. It’s a sound that, after the steps and steps of effects, occurs naturally in its own space, and as the size of that space has increased this time around, so too has the scope. The sheen is still of an intended bedroom lo-fi quality, only this time, that room has more windows and you can feel the breeze as it passes through.
Don’t miss this one.
