Lockets “Girl”

16 Jul 2013 — Parker Bruce

"Girl" by Philadelphia's Lockets calls to mind the magnificent "Paradise" by Wild Nothing from last year's Nocturne. The synths by Todd Mendelsohn are allowed to rise and fall intuitively, doing possibly the greatest things synths can do: which is make a quick squeaky sound. Embrace the solo! And vocalist Dani Mari sings lyrics that otherwise could be corny as if she is harmonising with the synths calling to mind New Look's cover of Janet Jackson's "He Doesn't Even Know That I'm Alive." "Girl" will be on the Surrender EP, which is coming out in August on Beautiful Strange in Asia and Europe and via Lockets themselves here in the USA.
