Olan Mill: “Pampas (Rurre)”.

12 Oct 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Some contemplative sounds to start your beautifully sunny Friday morning (well, at least here in Berlin) courtesy of British composer Alex Smalley aka Olan Mill, whose third full-length Home is a delightfully restrained effort on the intersection of neo-classical and ambient, quite easy on the ears yet not without enough twists and refined details in the arrangement - that features soprano Patricia Boynton and an ensemble of musicians playing woodwind, piano, pipe organ and violin alongside Smalley's own guitar play and field recordings - to keep the listener's attention. Home is out now on Preservation, the fifth work in Preservation’s limited edition CD series Circa for 2012. 300 copies, order over here.
