Red Alder: “Winterdress”.

17 Feb 2012 — Henning Lahmann
The first time we got a mail from the girl named Kelsie Brown, who makes music as Red Alder, the subject line stated "I don't know what to say", while the mail itself only said that "it's sad", and sad the music was, sad and fragile, intimate and broken but, at least in our minds, not without hope. This time, the mail was a bit longer, but sadness still prevailed, as the two songs below were "inspired by sad winter days, the ones where it snows all day and you can't seem to force yourself out of bed", and by "nightmares, waking up in the middle of the night from anxiety attacks, and sleep paralysis", and the songs are even more fragile, more quiet, and while listening to those hushed and distant, hauntingly beautiful melodies, we're actually not so sure anymore if there's still hope, and looking into the grey and bleak February sky outside, we realize that we do know how that feels.
