Stream: Blackrune “Omphalos EP”

Blackrune's 2012 EP Akhenaten Percentages was immense and dirty in its soundscape, teasing our ears with drowsy guitar noise in an obvious Sunn O))) inpired outfit. The other side of the spectrum pictured the trio's more ecclectic strenght, an obsession with the strange but patient beauty of 70's kraut, gracefully drowned in elements of shoegaze. A year has passed since Akhenaten Percentages, and the Savannah-based trio still have their minds focused on the same, drone heavy romance; but the shadows are richer with details, seemingly causing other, previously more hidden elements to shine through from the darkness — resulting in their new four-track EP Omphalos. Meant to be a preview for their upcoming LP Palustrine Hegemon, the Omphalos tape feel less cinematic and dense than their earlier material; and for the first time ever, breaking out of their strictly composed instrumental mapping, bringing in vocals to their darkened psychedelia.
