Over the last two years, enigmatic artist
RxRy has kept us in suspense with a string of outstanding if understated and largely overlooked releases that delved deep into the forgotten territories of static noise, effortlessly forming them into etudes of sublime beauty. Now, the project, which was one of the many guises of NFOP darling
Matthew Sage, has been laid to rest, but not before drawing its last breath with
c.STRS, another mournful transmission of ambient electronics, a slow-burning suite that is probably RxRy's most mature and accomplished work yet. As every proper
felo de se, it comes with a farewell note attached, which reads as follows:
PING (final):
Tonight is the last shadow I won't see.
Everything else I wrote is untrue. As is what follows.
The moon loops, but the sun slowly pushes out and towards us.
Any light is inevitable, so long as our planet spins.
No matter the force I exerted from this desk
wherever it was, the light will rise everywhere.
In spite of all my efforts, no night lasts forever.
A grin. A thin line between the sun and the sky.
A reality / disarmed. A charming character.
A conceit.
I long for a warm signal, without the veil.
read: GOODNIGHT / GOODLUCK / GOODBYE
c.STRS rises tomorrow...my website will explain more
than i can from where i am.
This is the last one, and the biggest.
and I push off from the coil, when the sun rises...
...best / last
There's some more "explanation"
over here, and a free download of
c.STRS should appear soon
on this site.
Thanks Matt, your wonderful mystery will be missed.
Stream
c.STRS below. Some copies of the highly recommended
A are available via Matt's own
Patient Sounds. Get yours
over here.
Update: Patient Sounds, which really and seriously is our favourite little cassette label out there, and which has been with us virtually forever (
just look at this), needs our/your help to expand a bit, which is why the folks have started a
Kickstarter in order to raise the amount of Dollars needed for their amazing plans. So we hereby strongly recommend you head
over here right now, check out what they have to say, and support their endeavour. Thanks.
