Video: Wolther Goes Stranger - “Money”.

09 May 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Wolther Goes Stranger has been the solo project of A Classic Education member Luca Mazzieri since 2007, but for some reason so far it has completely slipped my attention, though the fine folks over at Get Off The Coast (RIP) championed him two years ago after he had handed over a CDr before his bandmate Jonathan Clancy aka His Clancyness had played at SXSW. Anyway, while "Money" is nothing like the dance-y, gloomy "Playing Filter (The Sookie's Game)" back then, it still is a pretty dark offering that adds a little extra marvelousness with its subtly unsynchronized, off-kilter male/female vocals. It's a cover of this song of course, but coming from these Italian fellas, the line "I want to buy you something / But I don't have any money" sounds strangely more threatening and bleak, if not somewhat hopeless. "Money" is part of Wolther Goes Stranger's new EP A Lovely Boy, which is out now via Italian imprint La Barberia (which means barber shop, as apparently the business is run from inside a real barber shop, go figure). You may stream the EP in full over here and get it on cassette here. Limited edition of 100.
