Black to Comm: “Water”.

08 Mar 2012 — Jesse Thompson
This past Tuesday De Stijl Records released EARTH by Black to Comm (a.k.a. Mark Richter). As TMT notes, the album is the soundtrack to the 2009 silent film of the same name by Ho Tzu Nyen, which is, according to Richter, "a post-apocalyptic collage based on paintings by classical European painters…[and my] music tries to translate that concept." With whispered samples that slither about the space between dark imagery, sparse acoustic guitar, and ominous vocals that are delivered like a chanted, high-church ritual, the video for "Water" works with a restrained sort of bustle that slowly draws you toward a heightened sense of your mortality. Watch the video for "Water" below, and order your copy of EARTH over at De Stijl. Read more → This past Tuesday De Stijl Records released EARTH by Black to Comm (a.k.a. Mark Richter). Bon Chat, Bon Rat: “Dust Proud (feat Pepepiano)”.

08 Mar 2012 — Tonje Thilesen

As Sydney's (and Australia in general) has finally set international roots in the ever-growing electronic scene, the former trio-now-duo Bon Chat, Bon Rat have grown fast after NFOP's own monthly contributor Holly introduced us to them quite exactly a year ago. On their brand new single "Dust Proud" below, they also brought another East To West regular, Pepepiano into their dancy mess, and the result can be enjoyed exclusively below. An excellent quirky dance tune, if you prefer.

Their upcoming EP will be out on Future Classic in early June.

Video: Leno Lovecraft feat. Greatest Hits - “Scandalous”.

08 Mar 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Excellent animated video coming to you from the Gunk TV family, totally futuresque dance pop vibes performed by a bunch of free-spirited neon weirdos with some support from outer space on the drums. "Scandalous" is the latest, well, scandalously amusing tune by Leno Lovecraft, realized with the help of the fine dudes of Greatest Hits. There's new stuff coming from both projects sometime later this year, and you know it's gonna be a hell lotta fun. The video was directed and produced by Simon Ward & Leno Lovecraft. Premiere: Digits - “So Cold”.

07 Mar 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
This brand new tune of Toronto local, but currently London based Digits (aka Alt Altman) dropped in our inbox the other day, barely a week after I had personally met up with him in London over beer and ginger wine, shared together with a bunch of drunk Norwegians. That aside — "So Cold" is a freezing and sophisticated piece of electronica that might as well remind us of Alt's side project Bad Passion, if you happen to remember the splendid "Liquid Fire" from their last year's Doin' It Slow EP.  A new mixtape entitled Death and Desire featuring original Digits and Bad Passion tracks will drop on April 2, and will also include a remix of none other than Nite Jewel, so stay tuned. You can still download his last year's EP Lost Dream for free here. Joe Knight (Rangers): “Odd and Ends”/“Remixed Oldies”.

07 Mar 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Joe Knight, our beloved San Francisco via Texas resident whose artistic output we've come to know and cherish as Rangers, has produced a vast amount of incredible music in recent years that was not always put out at all or at least not published under his principal recording moniker. Perhaps in order to reminisce and reposition, Knight has now decided to post some of that material on his new Soundcloud, which sports his given name in order to avoid any confusion. However, while this might not be "official" Rangers music, the ten pretty amazing tracks of the "Odd and Ends" collection do seamlessly fall into line with the tunes on seminal records Suburban Tours and Pan Am Stories, despite all in all being less muffled and haze-saturated. A very worthwhile interruption, take a listen below. Dylan Ettinger: “Blue and Blue”.

07 Mar 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Quite a few things have already been said about Dylan Ettinger's recent turn towards song-based structures, for instance here or here, yet "Blue and Blue", the closing track of his forthcoming full-length Lifetime of Romance, is a good opportunity to re-emphasize our sheer amazement in view of this realignment which is, plainly, nothing short of mind-blowing. Though we couldn't find any Cure in here, the embracement of cold-hearted yet open-minded 80s synth pop is simply startling and keeps getting more and more exciting with every listen, and in this regard "Blue and Blue" is perhaps even more compelling than the already brilliant album opener "Wintermute" - crisp, focused, and not wasting a single note or noise, this is an excellent pop song. Lifetime of Romance is out March 20 via Not Not Fun. d’Eon: “Music For Keyboards Vol. 1”.

07 Mar 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Yesterday, Montréal-based d'Eon announced the release of his proper debut LP, named LP, via Hippos In Tanks on June 5. To celebrate the occasion, he also dropped Music For Keyboards Vol. 1, a collection of instrumentals composed between 2003 and 2011 that he'd uploaded on YouTube over the past few months. According to HIT, the tracks "contrast the pop-oriented songs" on the upcoming record. Listen below, and download the whole thing here (direct download). Coyote Clean Up: “Misty City”.

07 Mar 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Our friends over at Rose Quartz just premiered a new track off Coyote Clean Up's forthcoming Frozen Solid tape on 100% Silk. "Misty City" meanders along nicely, not sure if I could dance to this but this still is very club-worthy, some hazy interlude to zip a cocktail or two (if you're fast). Get Frozen Solid now over here. Read more → Our friends over at Rose Quartz just premiered a new track off Coyote Clean Up's forthcoming Frozen Solid tape on 100% Silk.
