After his recent excursion into rhythmic realms with his Cross-sectional Studies cassette on Exo Tapes, Michael McGregor aka Meadowlands is back with pure ambient bliss on his latest work The Sounds of Skyline Blvd. The 20-minute meditation, composed on Korg DSS1, "and recorded after returning home from a misty visit to California", is split into the two parts "Palomarin Trail" and "White Caps Way Off in the Distance", both emitting an immersive sonic glow that instantly generates a thoroughly peaceful state of mind which gets further augmented while watching the accompanying visuals that marvelously depict a Californian sunset slowly rolling in over the coast (be sure to watch it in full-screen mode).
The Sounds of Skyline Blvd is out on Patient Sounds. Get it here. Limited edition of 25.

Brand new, appropriately hilarious and playful video for Holy Balm's "Theme", taken from the Sydney outfit's forthcoming full-length It's You. Superb analogue synth murk that the trio likes to call "deep party". I guess you can dance to this though I'm not quite sure if you're also supposed to. In any case, recommended stuff.
It's You is out soon on Not Not Fun.
Check out another album track below, "Take It".

Hailing from Brooklyn but currently based in Ankara, Turkey, the electronic soundscaper Bearstatic has put up a whole bunch of interesting productions on Soundcloud, that I originally discovered while browsing the universe of Iceland's Gogoyoko. Released back in September through Mind Plug records last year, Balloon is probably amongst his strongest material so far, exploring a space between minimal drone and ambient, completed with field recordings and more traditional elements of Turkish Sufi music. "Centipede" is his freshest track up to date, released on a 2 anniversary compilation over at Mind Plug last weekend.

The most remarkable video we've stumbled upon this week (aside from that new Julia Holter one, of course) is undoubtably crafted by New Zealand's Joey Bania, a perfectly composed eye candy featuring the Canadian ambient producer Kyle Bobby Dunn. We've also hand-picked videos of Kevin Greenspon + Jon Barba, Purity Ring, Slow Magic, Permanent Collection, and of course the live video of our beloved Manchester quartet MONEY, doing a breathtaking performance of "So Long (GODISDEAD)". Happy Sunday.
Kyle Bobby Dunn - An Evening With Dusty (directed by Joey Bania)
Julia Holter - Our Sorrows (by Naomi Yang)
Purity Ring - Belispeak (by BREWER)
MONEY - So Long (GODISDEAD) live (by Magic RPM)
Permanent Collection - It's Alright (Photography and Editing by Fred Velez)
Kevin Greenspon + Jon Barba - Already Dead (by Tim Hendrix)
Slow Magic - Music (Directed by Aurelien Offner & Guillaume Genetet)

Based in Berlin, We Loyal have supported a whole bunch of hype generated acts in town as of lately, including Young Magic, Neon Indian and Active Child to mention a few, but did apparently pass my radar somewhere in this musical chaos. Not that Berlin is housing that many unique "indie bands" anyway, or whatever you want to call it, but it does indeed sound like the Swiss trio is pulling in the right direction. Watch the new video for their single "Arch Of Glass" below.

With groups like Hotel Mexico or Jesse Ruins, Japanese underground pop received some well-deserved exposure in the last two years, with some remarkable internet attention and subsequent signings by US and UK labels. Before the latter took notice, Tokyo imprint Cuz Me Pain served both as nucleus and focal point of the emerging scene, with a roster that includes not only Jesse Ruins, now taken care of by Captured Tracks, but also other exponents of a distinctly Japanese approach to pop such as Atlas Young, Masculin, or Nites. One of the most interesting of the lot however is Faron Square, the main project of label founder Yokke. The outfit’s knack for glaring, overstated indie pop is not unlike that of the first bands mentioned above, with blurry, mostly unintelligible lyrics that are drowned under washes of fuzzy and distorted synths and guitars, at times slightly irritating for Western ears yet consistently amazing. Listen to “Echoes of Love”, the first single off Faron Square’s latest full-length Willys Heartbeat.
Willys Heartbeat is out now on Cuz Me Pain.

So yeah, as reported before and virtually by everyone else, our man Dent May has decided to ease our seasonal pains by making the ultimate summery feel-good record, named Do Things (ok), out June 12 (timely) and released via Paw Tracks (nice). Re-visit the neat video for the first track "Best Friend" and enjoy "Home Groan", the LP's second single that elegantly namedrops all the places our Mississippi native does not want to move, all presented in May's signature style of half-ironic buoyancy. Pre-order Do Things on vinyl here and on CD here.
