Unmade Bed: “Go The Whole Way”.

02 Aug 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
From the bedroom behind a sex shop in Sheffield comes the super addictive disco pop of the trio Unmade Bed, recorded with passionate love towards early Madonna tunes and NYC disco imprint ZE Records. Pop so pure it's almost extraordinary. Premiere: Little Spoon - “Two Apparitions”.

01 Aug 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
Boston's psych pop dude Cameron Potter aka Little Spoon hasn't been much home in his vegan-friendly neighborhood Allston as of late, having grown a tendency to appear in shirtless, sweaty facebook photos with fellow FMLY members Birthdays and Cuddle Formation, playing basement shows across the touring friendly, North American landscape. A well six months have passed since our ears peeled over his last cassette release Allergic To Jerks, and recently rumors have been flowing that the fine folks over at Crash Symbols have proposed to put out his next creation. On the brand new track "Two Apparitions" below, Potter turns slightly away from his distinctively layered lo-fi productions, adding almost-whispering vocals over a static, darkened soundwave, less organic and crunchy than we remember his previous tunes to lean towards. It's without denial a very interesting direction he's taking, and as always, we're very eager to be a part of it. And now over to you lovely North Americans: if you live in one of the cities below, well, you definitely know where your head and body should be on either of these golden dates. 8.2 | Brooklyn, NY. Kassem Mosse: Live in Toulouse.

01 Aug 2012 — Henning Lahmann
Leipzig's Gunnar Wendel aka Kassem Mosse, one of Germany's most forward-thinking and exciting musicians and (partly) responsible for one of our favorite releases of 2012 so far, recently went down to Toulouse to perform at Les Siestes Electroniques. His 30-minute set was recorded, providing us with an excellent opportunity to digest his breathtaking skills and incommensurable feeling for tension and resolution, frankly proving his true musical genius. Take a listen below. Video: Sweatshirt - “Unicorn”.

01 Aug 2012 — Henning Lahmann
The summer-approved, sweet and innocent vibes of "Unicorn" by Berlin residents Eric Crusher and Chloe aka Sweatshirt have been haunting the capital for quite a while now already, and here we're finally blessed with the (mildly and appropriately kitschy, we'd like to say) accompanying visualisation. Pure pop won't get much better, so give in and enjoy. Drop Out Venus: “I Kill Foxes”.

01 Aug 2012 — Henning Lahmann
London's Drop Out Venus have most likely not come down to earth to share the joy, but the rightfully acclaimed trio's latest transmission nonetheless manages to sink even deeper into bleakness than the previous songs: After a few relatively quiet and calm seconds, "I Kill Foxes" rides on massive, fierce, and simply overwhelming washes of guitar that aggressively accompany the singer's musings of hopelessness, before the wall of sound finally collapses into an exhausted last breath of desperation. The vocal performance in fact slightly reminds me of Shannon Wright, which you may take as almost the biggest compliment imaginable. This is truly excellent stuff, though I'm still struggling to wrap my mind around the outfit's self-ascribed genre of "junk jazz". But maybe that's just me. The band's debut single "Elastic Teen Rent" b/w "I Kill Foxes" will be out September 24 on Dirty Bingo Records. Philco Fiction: “Portrait Of Silence (Holy Strays remix)”.

01 Aug 2012 — Tonje Thilesen
As we mentioned last month, the Parisian producer Holy Strays has been a long-standing favourite here at NFOP, more precisely since we stumbled upon him 2010, shortly followed up with his debut release on (surprise) Not Not Fun. I wasn't particularly prepared to find a link between Holy Strays and the finest Oslo pop outfit Philco Fiction, but apparently there is one as of yesterday. Listen to this celestial rework of their ballady "Portrait Of Silence", undoubtably our favourite track from their last year's debut LP Keep It Personal.
