Watch: Love Cult “My Boy” (exclusive)

In the past years, Karelian duo Anya Kuts and Ivan Afanasyev have made regular appearances on these pages, either as curators of acclaimed tape label Full Of Nothing, or with their own noise and drone incursions as Love Cult, the last time exactly a year and one day ago with the amazing "Things Are Worse in Russia" mix after releasing Fingers Crossed, their fabulous full-length on London imprint Public Information. Today, you can see the two return with "My Boy", taken from Love Cult's forthcoming Know EP, and listening to this first cut, quite a few things seem to have changed sonically since 2012. Instead of tape hiss and muffled samples from the netherworld, "My Boy" is dominated by a fierce 4/4 layout that inadvertently reminds us of a more belligerent and eerie variant of recent Downwards offerings, in case that's possible. Watching the rather disturbing video that goes along with the repetitive surge of invasive rattling and rustling, premiered below, we cannot help but think that things must be worse in Russia indeed. This here marks a massive return of two of Eastern Europe's finest agents of a global electronic underground, and a highly welcome one at that.
